so far I'm happy with the stock Bridgestones, there's also a Cooper tire I'm checking out, it's a little heavier at about 42 lbs. I just hit 10K on the truck so I'm no where close to needing tires so I have plenty of time to read an watch.

What are you looking for in a tire?
The OP is looking for something that is closer to a true off-road tire and can be acceptable on snow and ice.

the company I work for doesn't agree with goodyears policy. All political.
The company would rather you buy a foreign tire than from an American company because it doesn't like their politics?

Not trying to start a political debate but that sounds absolutely ridiculous.

Also, Cooper ST MAXX is fantastic tire. super heavy duty and great in all conditions, as well as fairly quiet on the road.

Good Year did P!$$ me off with their latest BS. I try to buy US made products but I've never had a great experience with GY tires. I thought the GY tires that came on on 16 fusion were pretty good until I replaced them with Michelin tires.

Cooper tire headquarters is in Ohio too. I haven't looked into where their tires are made but that puts them on my list of preferred tires to look at when it's time.

I'm not demanding on a tires capabilities...I mostly commute in it so a good ride an quiet is high on the list. We get some bad weather here so handling snow is up there too. Since I added the tune from Livernois I'm diggin the acceleration so I might go all in on that with a down pipe an full 3" exhaust so I want to keep the tires on the lighter side.
The only hauling I do is materials for household projects

Unless you are talking about thier latest political deal I'm not sure what you mean by thier latest shit. Also comparing good year tires to michelin tires is like comparing a car to a truck..... There is no comparison....

Anyone try out the yokohama geolander at-x tires. I'm in the market for some tires before winter gets here.
I did some research on these over the weekend. One thing I did discover is that they are not the best for winter conditions if that is a priority. They lack the 3-Peak winter symbol. Other than that, the press seem happy with them :inlove:. You have to take that with a grain of salt though since it's hard to find an actual helpful review from someone who wasn't courted by Yokohama with free meals and Raptor trucks to blast through the desert with. I did find a good review though from a guy in Australia who does tire reviews. He was testing them with a Ranger as well.

I also noticed that their sizes run larger than most. For example, the LT265/70R17 is 32" in diameter and the LT285/70R17 is 33.1" in diameter. However, they are also much heavier since they are Load Range E tires.

Why? Reports are they are not good in snow and ice.
according to who? and compared to what?

The fact that they lack lack the snowflake rating doesn't necessarily mean they're not good in snow and ice. Cooper ST MAXX don't have it either, and they've been fantastic in snow and ice.

They certainly aren't going to have the grip of a dedicated winter tire, but a dedicated winter tire isn't going to have the strength, dirt and mud capabilities of a xtreme all terrain.

And if OP is limited to not buying goodyear duratracs, there's not many other options.

If OP is looking for a tough tire to get him to oil fields in all conditions, I'd still say the Yoko X-AT is a good option.

Tread compound and the fact there is almost no siping. Anecdotally, people are not liking it in the snow.
Those Coopers are good because of the siping.

Where are you seeing that people are not liking them in the snow? I have seen reviews that say they are either good, or they didn't get a chance to try them.

as for siping, there's not a huge advantage that I see to either one. Yokohama indicates that the tire is made with sipes for snow. Cooper doesn't even mention snow with the ST Maxx, not to mention the fact that it was originally designed for the australian market, which does not get much snow. ?‍♂

I'm currently running them. 255/70/R18. It's one of the lighter tires coming in at 41 lbs I believe. Just got back from an 8500 mile camping trip all around the US. Not a single issue or puncture. 75 % road and 25% off road so I was looking for a tire that did not have any road noise and these were perfect. Silent on the highway. Only thing I didn't come across was snow .
