Funny because he has EIGHT posts in a thread the has zero interest in...Go figure...

I ignored him. Nothing but negativity..... Every forum has one or two exceptionally rude people. . Likely because in reality, he is THEE uber Ford fanboi ("Ford trucks for life") he cannot take it when someone else brings in another great vehicle for opinions.

Maybe the mods can move this thread where it belongs to spare him from opening and commenting in a thread he has no interest in except to Defend his "Ford for Life""Thankfully most of the comments in this thread opened my eyes a tad.

Thank You to all those who were NOT offended by the subject. '
The Ridgeline may well be a "great vehicle", but it hardly shares the same market as the Ranger.
I considered a new 2.3L Mustang, A Transit Van, and an F150 when I bought my Ranger, each shares a few characteristics with the Ranger, but none represents direct "in kind"competition.
I closely examined the Colorado, the Frontier, and of course the Tacoma at the same time.
While each of these fell short of the Ranger, they all were designed as direct competition.

I bought my TC to assume many of the duties of the Ranger, and it does those well, but I have never been under the illusion that the TC was a direct competitor.
Same is true of the Ridgeline,.... great vehicle with a different, if overlapping purpose.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You have often used the term "Ford Fanboi" as an epithet for those who simply examined the choices and picked the best product of its kind.
In the interest of fairness....
I must admit that decades of unparalleled reliability and fitness for the job has influenced my decision to buy Ford.
As did experience with, and examination of, the competition.

That's because the rude member claimed "Ford for Life" Like those at Tacoma World who believe the Tacoma is the end all pickup truck in every metric. People don't have to be rude because there may be another option for those of us who want an SUV with a pick up bed. Maybe next time around.

I try to encourage members with THEIR choices. I may have an adverse opinion but I try not to be rude and condescending like a handful here. It is what it is. I support all members even if I disagree. It's not important to me whether the Honda is a "real truck" For me it has a pickup bed..That is a truck to 99% of people looking at it.

The Ridgeline fan boy that brought this whole topic ( unwanted in my opinion) in all its ridiculousness to us & had some underlying agenda it looked like to me ..who signs up an goes on a very vehicle specific page to try an subtlety promote a POS fake truck can go away. No seeds were planted fella . I think some of us got good laugh from his 1st post . Ford trucks for life!
@SubVet , you are one dedicated fellow. You joined this forum over a year ago. You've made nearly one thousand posts. You freakin bought a Ranger. I literally had no idea that you were actually a Honda plant, sent here to infiltrate, earn our trust, and then steer us all towards the Ridgeline.

Many thanks to @DMK45 for uncovering this dastardly scheme.

All those facts have nothing to do with liking something else. In fact, I like the Tacoma as well. I'm not trying to sell anybody the ridgeline. I know how body-on-frame guys think. I was one and I don't drive places where I need a body on frame construction. I'm just not going to flex the truck that much. Dirt roads are the only thing that I would drive on it might be a little challenging for a 2-wheel drive but actually no. Many of us grew up in the 60s and 70s up north in the snow and with a license is barely three years old we were driving two-wheel rear wheel drives in the snow. In fact when I worked in Branson and it snowed most of the vehicles in the ditches were 4X4...CAn you guess why??

My second truck was a Gen 1 Ridgeline - great truck kinda of wish I didn't let that one go. However, when I decided I wanted to get out of my Jeep Wrangler - I looked around at SUV's and then trucks. I'm also a big fan of Honda (3 pilots and accords) but I just couldn't bring my self to even test drive the Ridgeline as it just looks ugly. I didn't need a 4x4 just wanted something to haul crap in for the suburban lifestyle (who the Ridgeline is made for). I just couldn't get over the ugliness and then I priced one out - I have an XLT 302A - as I wanted a few things CarPlay being the biggest - Honda made you upgrade all the way to get that. Whoever they have designing their new Pilot and Ridgeline should be fired. I loved the old look - now I own a Ranger & VW Atlas

Yeah, that's a problem with honda. They're just not very good looking vehicles. But i'm long past aesthetics. I am more of a function over form kind of guy.

When shopping I look for function. Like many, I don't think the ridgeline is a necessarily good-looking truck. Tacoma still holds that trophy IN MY Opinion. Anyway, it's good to poke around and see what else is out there The more information the better.

I know you have to upgrade to get options. I always buy the top of the line because I want all the features available. I don't think I would buy the black label version. Blacked out vehicles and motorcycles don't look good to me. Way overdone and they're a bitch to keep clean. I don't clean and poke around my vehicle much looking for something to clean.

I take it to a car wash once every couple months and then put a coat of wax on it when i get home. I don't keep a vehicle clean enough to have a black vehicle. Especially with all the pollen and Car washes are brutal on black vehicles. They need to be hand-washed very carefully. Everything shows up on black.

There is a Black Ranger here with the chrome package I did like. I love looking at them,. But would not want one in my garage. Sort of like the 2020 Corvette wannabe Lambo....Too much "look at me" But I like seeing them on the road. My favorite still is the C6 convertible. Z51.

wanna know a secret.....

i used to like fat chicks.

the thing is, most guys never admit that.
but then most guys will sleep with fat chick because thats all they can get. As long as their friends never know.

what I am trying to say is, Subvet has his opinion a view, a particular like and or a need, those that dont like it can pass on his thread if they dont like it.
its as simple as that.
So is the ridgeline the fat chic?

Were they, though? Both the current generation Tacoma and Colorado were designed and introduced to the America market long before the T6 was even a realistic notion for the US. You can't really be "designed as direct competition" when you proceed the competition before it even existed.

If i still lived in the desert of las vegas., i would have a four-wheel drive for sure. Back in the day we used to go into the desert and shoot. We did a lot of four wheeling. Here i won't be doing any four wheeling.

Those who say all-wheel drive sucks should go up north and see what people are driving in the snow. . All-wheel drive is better than 2-wheel drive when it comes to dirt roads and wet pavement at least.

My wife's hondas have been great. But there's no way I give up my Ranger and 10 grand to buy a ridgeline. I just don't see $10,000 more. Because I only put about five or six thousand miles a year on a vehicle I'm a look at something used next time around unless the redesigned Tacoma and ranger calls me. I'm not beholden to any brand

IMO the answer is yes.
The Colorado (nee S10) and the Tocoma have been competing directly with the Ranger for decades, long enough to establish the genre and its evolution and long enough that leap frogging iterations obviate the introduction dates of each version.
As you know, GM, Ford, and Ram (nee Dodge) have been direct competitors in the "full sized"truck market since before either us was born and before any of them was as large as a Gen3 Ranger.

Actually, your point is technically moot , since I made no direct reference to chronology in the statement to which you refer... merely that they were all designed as direct competition.
The Ranger is just the latest iteration of the genre, allowing it to"leap frog" its competition and leaving them once again struggling to catch up.

It is true that the Ranger didn't start the "compact truck" market in the U.S. they just improved it, and set the standard for others to emulate.
Upon its return in 2019, the U.S. Ranger has once again raised the bar.

The 2019 Honda Ridgeline is the Most American-Made Truck (except for the Jeep).

https://www.forconstructionpros.com...onda-ridgeline-is-the-most-americanmade-truck
Ridgeline is the number 3 vehicle on the made in America list,

I have to ask where was your computer made? I refused to buy an iPhone because they were made in China And most home appliances. And a crapload of other things we use every day without realizing it came from china. But I understand your issue. Almost everything we buy is made in China.

Those of us who don't mind Japanese products always ask if it was made in Japan because if it was made in japan it was considered great and Toyota is a great company that builds here. I think their quality is taking a hit with the 2016 3rd gen Tacoma but they're still selling thousands and thousands of them every quarter. We live in a world economy there's no way we can live without everything in our homes that are ultimately made in china. No TVs are made in the united states so you can throw that out.

Five of the top 15 vehicles on the 2019 American-Made Index are trucks. In order of ranking:

Top 15 most “American-made” vehicles
  • Jeep Cherokee, Belvidere, Illinois.
  • Honda Odyssey, Lincoln, Alabama.
  • Honda Ridgeline, Lincoln, Alabama.
  • Honda Passport, Lincoln, Alabama.
  • Chevrolet Corvette, Bowling Green, Kentucky.
  • Acura MDX (excludes hybrid variants), East Liberty, Ohio.
  • Honda Pilot, Lincoln, Alabama.

The point I was making was, when you went shopping, you were comparing vehicles that were designed and produced after Ford axed the Ranger from the North American market. Thus, what you were shopping in the current market wasn't designed or intended as a competitor for Rangers as they did not exist in the U.S. again until last year. Both the Colorado and the Tacoma's last redesign was introduced to the American market in 2013 and 2016 respectively. The last previous-generation Ranger was built December 15th, 2011.
