I noticed inconsistent braking and an irritating noise coming from the brake pedal. I took it in and was told the truck needed a new brake booster. Called a few days later and was told the part would be in about a week later. After two weeks, I was told the part is on back order. I've looked on different sites and it is on national back order. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Anyway, I'm picking up my truck today while I wait for the part to arrive. Very frustrating.

With the coronavirus becoming so widespread, I'm wondering if we may start seeing more and more parts shortages.

What did the noise sound like? Did the brakes still function ok? I have a funny noise coming from mine and just wondering if its going to be the same.

I wonder if this will become a recall of some sort. I've had my brakes serviced 5 times in 20K miles. The last time, they changed out the rear rotors, and it feels like the problem is coming back after about 6K miles.

I'm surprised this was posted just yesterday as I think I'm having a similar issue. My FX4 Lariat has a weird brake pedal noise but it has been consistent. I would say my pedal does feel a little soft, but it doesn't have random consistency.

I'll post a video of the noise later today when I get home. I'm going to be bringing it in sometime this week to see what they think. I thought it was just something on the braking mechanism being metal on metal or metal on rubber making a squeaking noise...But it certainly does get annoying.

Hi Matt,

Which wheel do you think is causing the noise? Check the backing plate which may be rubbing on the rotor...

For me it's the actual pedal itself that's making the noise, not a wheel/rotor...At least that's what I understood to be OP's problem.

Here's the video of my brake noise, not sure if it's the same as OP's but the irritating noise sounded like the same thing I have lol.

It does this regardless if the truck is on or off...In the video the truck is off.

Most likely pivot point are either missing a bushing or needs to be lubed. Possilby it's the booster as well.

HI Matt,

This is a characteristic rubber boot squeak...There are lubricants in aerosol cans that can be sprayed up into the dash panel area around the pedal plunge rod and will likely stop the noise...I doubt a new booster will fix this. Do not use WD40...it is not a lubricant...WD stands for water displacement....A silicon lube is not going to last. You need a polyethylene type to try to see if it is effective. Friend with a Chevy HHR...Steering sounded the same. I took my Ford Polyethylene spray and coated the rubber boot. Noise went away and has not returned several years later. May not fix the noise, but worth a try in my opinion.

love your hand woven floor mats. great idea to absorb the water.
Yeah I had been laying on my back looking under the dash trying to figure out where the squeak was coming from. Didn't want to get the back of my head covered in mud or worse :asshat: lol

Hi Matt,
Your video shows the exact issue that I have with the pedal noise. It does seem like the pedal feel is inconsistent. I can press down on it quickly and it seems like it brakes much better. Ford dealer is going to call when they get the brake booster in but now I'm not sure that is going to fix the problem. I will try to find a lubricant and see if that helps with the squeak but I don't see it helping the braking.

@Raul R. Any update on if the booster fixed the inconsistent pedal feel issue?

I took mine in to get the windows tinted and they gave me a 2020 F-150 loaner and the brakes on that thing are insane. You lightly blow on them and the truck plants you into the windshield it stops so hard. The Ranger brake pedal feels like you're pushing into a bowl of oatmeal by comparison.

Well I guess it's good to know (depending on your definition of good is) that mine isn't the only one making this noise. It didn't do it at first. Started up just after the first decently hot day and the truck baked in the sun all day and has done it since.

Hi Folks,

Again. Search for bedding in your brakes. I wrote a procedure for this and it appears to help!

I have this same noise —- not as loud but that’s it—— please let me know if you found a fix. Please!
