That isn't an old handle nor an XL/XLT handle that is designed to be textured black. That is an "unpainted" Lariat handle. That's why it looks funny. The surface on those is different and designed to be painted.
nope, the other handles are all glass smooth. This is a textured black handle. My old F150 XL handles were very similar. Either way it’s a screw up :)

this handle has no wear. I did put some quick detailer on it and it looked a bit better. Interestingly there’s another thread here with folks talking about their plain door handles looking faded even after the first wash.

I didn't read the whole thread yet, but my bet is that the truck got a broken handle and the dealer got a replacement handle, had it installed, and forgot to send it out for paint.

Bought my 2022 Lariat Tremor on Saturday and had a funny feeling this afternoon that something wasn’t right.

Then I realized that one of the door handles doesn’t match the other three… SMH

Not surprised at all...
When I wrenched at a Lincoln-Mercury dealership years ago I saw a brand new Monarch 4 door sedan with a blue dashboard (the whole thing) installed in it, trouble is the rest of the interior was a burgundy color.
Out of curiosity we popped the trunk and there lay a burgundy dash.
I've several other QC horror stories to tell if anyone wants to hear them...

I think you've nailed it, seen similar things like this happen many times when I worked @ a dealership

It happens I suppose. I wonder if that handle was prepped for paint but never got paint or clear?

Our Ranger left rear window trim was half popped out, not sure how that made it through QC but figured the same way we didn't notice it till the truck was home.

When I was a Benz tech, during a PDI I saw a C-Class with a passenger front cloth seat when only leather was offered in the USA. That had a plastic protector when it arrived so I suspect QC could not really see that until the cover was removed. Had to send the factory pics and such.

YES !!

How about starting a new thread ?

Factory, Dealer, and Repair Shop Horror Stories
I start off with a teaser, but a doozie...
I got assigned a job on a brand new '77 Cougar XR-7 whose 351M engine shook like a SOB, accompanied with a horrendous clatter in it's lower end. The engine shook so badly when idling that the hood would not stay raised.
Called the shop foreman over to look at it, he told me to scope it then run a compression test on it.
Sure enough, one of the cylinders was completely dead, I've forgotten exactly which one it was.
Yanked the head on the dead cylinder side and I could not believe what I saw.
The dead cylinder was missing it's piston and rod!
Called my buddy (and partner in crime) over to have a look, he tells me "how the f***k did you yank the piston without dropping the oil pan?" I responded "dude, it never had a piston to begin with!"
That job wound up with putting a new short block in it, the crank rod journal was beat to crap because of the opposite cylinder rod danced sideways everyway possible.
The car was actually delivered in that condition, our body shop guys used to PDI all the new cars.
The salesman who sold it, true to car salesman form, actually told the customer "she'll smoothen out once it's broken in"...lol

That is just the wrong handle. It isn't "unpainted." It looks identical to the door handles on my STX, which is to say, kinda crappy. One of the lamest parts of my truck is how the handles have looked faded and splotchy since the first wash. I put some detailer on now that helps but its a crappy color and texture by ford.

It sure is. They put the rear seats from a Badlands (yellow stitching) in a Black Diamond which had blue stitching.

Guess the robot was color blind. :sunglasses:

Many moons ago, in my GM days , I brought in a new pick up for prep. At first I couldnt figure out what was wrong, then it finally hit. emblems on drivers side were GMC. Pass side was Chevrolet. They were shipped with stickers on them that said GMC conversion.

I just kinda glanced through the responses, but wanted to let the OP know I had the same issue with a 2020 Explorer Platinum I bought before the Ranger. Three white door handles with chrome inserts……one white handle with a black insert. Had several other QC related issues with that vehicle that the dealer was fairly quick to address, but it was a persistent oil leak that ultimately ended our relationship. After five attempts to repair, which included replacing the pan and all the seals twice, the sixth visit at the early height of Covid pushed me over the edge. That’s when they told me they couldn’t squeeze me in for 8 more weeks and to expect parts to be 2-4 months out….after the diagnostics. They were essentially telling me I was gonna be living with the leak another six months. Traded in for a Ranger the very next day.

On the plus side, after 17 months of ownership I got what I paid for it in the trade and a great deal on the new Ranger. No issues whatsoever with the Ranger to date (knock wood).

OP, hope ya get this sorted out quickly. It’s a pain in the ass, but the shit does happen.
