This is probably stupid and well know by other people but...

Wow! I've owned my Ranger since 2019 and I've never noticed this! The gear your in is displayed to the left of the in dash screen on the XLT. It was pretty interesting watching how short of a time it spends in any gear during normal surface street driving.

On the XL it doesn't display by default BUT ... if I press the up button on the gear stick while in Drive, it will then display like this in the upper left (which I like to see):

PS - Yes, I may, or may not, have been coming back from the dump this morning ... =p

When I bought mine I just wanted to drive! Who needs instructions? But seriously the owners manual of today is so huge, and so many features, especially on the Lariat. And since I didn't get a paper manual I have to read the online version which on your phone is like microfiche, I haven't got through all of it yet but look up things when I discover something new. I think I understand the important stuff ?

My "DUH" moment came on a trip last month while going through some light rain. I thought the control for the intermittent wipers was not easy to reach and then WDYK, my hand found the forward version of that inconvenient control. After being soundly shamed earlier this year when I was spilling gas down the side of my truck not knowing about "the funnel", I spent some time grazing through the manual. Don't recall picking up on the wiper control though.

The majority of people are clueless (evidenced by election results). Just put it in drive and let the automatic trans do its thing. And keep your eyes on the road.

looking at the picture i thought you were talking about the useless speed WITH the speedo. something I don't understand. Why do I need 2 things to tell me how slow I'm going. what I need is a gauge to tell me how many cars are stuck behind me

Side note: what's up money bags with a full tank? fuel filler might be "siphon proof" but a hole in the plastic tank can still empty it
I think fords HMI engineers need to apply for student loan pay back because the dash displays S U C K

It confounds me that some folks will buy a $40,000 machine with 14,000 parts and not read the manual that came with it to know how to operate it for the most enjoyment and safety.

You can download Owners Manuals here in .pdf form for free, for any Ford product going back to 1996. Much handier than running down to the garage in my jammies to look something up.

Meantime, here is the pertinent page:
pffft ... what the hell is this a book? I don't read.

Modern life has a million more things to remember than humans are genetically matched to do. Only so much can stick in our brains without need for practice and repetition.

I'm glad those disappeared, you could spend hours in the manual library looking up references with those tapes, I was sooo happy when they converted them to CD, it won't be long till they say what's a CD? ?

When that display is visible, you can also lock out gears from the top down using your down(back) arrow on the left side of the gear shift!
This! It's actually very nice when you are crawling on a tough trail and doesn't want the car to shift up to second gear for example, gives you way more control

The glory of a 10 speed transmission is that it does not stay in 1 gear long, especially when speed, incline, winds etc are changing. The computer is always adjusting to balance max efficiency for a given demand.
