Windshield rock chip?

How big a deal is a tiny rock chip on a trade in?
You can see it in the cab and from the outside. I had it “repaired“ $80.00 and it took the guy maybe 15 minutes. And you can still see it from in and outside. I know from previous chip repair you can see it from the inside. And that glass I had to replace because it split.

This one is very small compared to the on I had in my old f 150.

Tiny? I consider that chip to be anything but tiny. My guess is a dealer would want that replaced.

If you have glass coverage, I think you should have it replaced and suck up the deductible. A windshield will cost them hundreds more and they won’t add it to the sale price - they’ll factor it into the trade-in offer. If you don’t have glass coverage and don’t want to replace it, be ready to be offered less than expected.

I traded in an Audi with a 3 foot crack in the windshield (zoom in to see it). The deal was done online. The dealership never saw it until the day I dropped it off. They seemed to not care at all. I thought that was odd since Audi charges $2200 to replace the windshield. $1800 for the glass and $400 to "program" it. I'm guessing they went with the $450 Safelite option.

Mine doesn't necessarily have a rock chip. It instead has multiple rock chips.

I have to agree with Duke. I've got what I would call a tiny one which is only really visible because it's in the driver's line of sight, otherwise it's so tiny it wouldn't really be noticed and I wouldn't bother. Yours is a lot more visible than mine, so it'll definitely be noticed in the inspection, and a replacement windshield will probably come out of what they offer you.

If it was an old truck that you'd run into the ground and was pretty much going to be sold for parts, I wouldn't bother, but a 2021 should still have plenty of resale value, and I'm assuming that it's in good condition overall.

I had Safelite repair several of mine and while they do a great job you can usually still see/tell where they are if they're large chips like yours. Honestly I would just trade it in like that and see what they say. Most times they don't even care (or see it) and will just have their shop repair them.

I traded in a work van years ago and after making the deal on a new truck (I ordered from them) I slid into the corner of a new foundation on a job site durning a snowstorm. It pushed the right corner of the front bumper in and I thought they were going to deduct that from the trade in but they didn't even say anything about it.

Your windshield also appears to be "sand blasted". You can probably count on the dealer charging full Ford retail and deducting it from the trade price, you may be better off getting a "jobber" one installed.

Getting service at my dealer Monday.
I printed off a build for a new ranger. If i can harness the energy to deal with a sales person, I may give them my build for a quote and ask them about the glass.
Carvana knocked around a $1000.00 off the price when I put in glass damage.

The repair you had done stabilized the crack only, from cracking further and debris/water penetrating it over time

It was a structural repair, not cosmetic. Cosmetic you need to replace the whole windshield for $$$$

Yes it is a quick job, uses a UV cured resin. Price is on the high side but not totally unreasonable

Most auto parts stores carry a DIY kit. I have done it both ways
