The batteries really are the limit. For my Toro, it has two 6Ah ones and that's enough to do my driveway once or twice (depending on snow weight and depth). My Driveway is 55' by 14', so not huge at all.

For a super fluffy and dry snow, I could probably do my driveway and two neighbors with smaller ones.

Another pair of batteries would be nice (the Toro can run on 1, 2, or 3 batteries at a time).

But DANG! those batteries are costly! $340 for a 7.5 Ah!

Also, the stock charger is dog slow at about 4 hours to recharge (much slower then the Ego speed charger).

I was torn on the Ego blower, since I have several batteries. But Toro won me over since the unit is one of their existing gas units, just with the electric powerhead.

Of course, my frame of reference is growing up in Quebec:

And the batteries are only limited by your bank account - I saw the 10 Ah battery they have and it is north of 40 bucks. jeepers creepers.

realistically a snow blower like the Toro could almost be a group buy for me and my neighbors. I buy the batteries I would use, they buy a pair etc, etc and we split the cost of the blower itself.

the maintenance is minimal as it is electric and doesn't require much in the way of tinkering and cleaning the motor. just some minor adjustments and lubricating.

geez - now you got me really contemplating this . . .

My Dad in Maryland actually has 2 gas snow blowers he has offered me, I would just have to drive from Denver to Baltimore to get them. lol

I have the EGO 24 incher with the 56 batteries. Easily does my driveway and 2 neighbors (one if snow is more than 6 inches).
Far and away easier to use and maneuver than my old John Deere gas. No real maintaince other than a good cleaning after the season is over.
And, to prevent build up try spraying the chute and blades with some Pam Cooking Spray.....won't totally get rid of buildup but it does help.
Don't know about the Toro, but the EGO batteries are warrantied for 3 years, and 5 years on the thrower.

Based on you Grumpaw, I'd say that Ego and Toro would be good choices.

I was biased from my past and from having one of my older Ego batteries die when I was making this decision (well beyond that warranty period).

Since Grumpaw has gas experience (!) his evaluation of the Ego is gold.

I also spray mine with dry silicone lube - it helps for a bit. If I used Pam, I'd probably get a hankering for some over easy eggs! =D

The EGO only weighs about 155-160 lbs WITH both batteries installed....it is a breeze to handle and maneuver compared to my old JD. That monster weighed around 300 lbs and even with the steering and turn help was a bitch to use.
Took me a few years, but now I am a true believer in what battery stuff is capable of (NOT COUNTING VEHICLES !!!!!!!).
Have the EGO trimmer and blower, and if/when my old gas mower goes, will be getting the EGO unit.
I'm sure any of the quality brands are just as capable.

You know David, you could scrape your driveway just as easily by just lowering Soupie's Chin Chain to just touch the ground.....probably scrape that driveway in nothing flat (and look sexy while doing it, what with that hangin chin chain )

Even my snow thrower is electric and it does nearly as good as gas (it's a Toro).

All lawn tools are electric except for the Billy Goat Lawn Vac.

The Ego mower took a while for me to get used to - it's doesn't lift twigs very well. And my Ego blower is only used in turbo mode, which is supposed to be hard on batteries, but they've been doing well for 6+ years.

My latest toy is the Milwaukee pruner:

imo, about 85-90% as good as gas

I have those pruners too they’re great, the little chainsaw is good for small stuff little 6in branch thickness.. so if you don’t have one yet ? here’s a vote to get one ?

You guys must live where it only 'kind of' snows to be talking about electric. I've had my cul de sac filled with 20" of snow before and these electric blowers are cute but it's a pipe dream where we get a foot plus everytime @Colo_Ranger washes his truck ?

That may be the winning thing! The Toro is 172 pounds!

Yeah, a 6 incher is a lot here, although every few years we get a good one 1-2 feet.
But, we're retired, so no biggie for us to just stay home and survive on out pantry, extra freezer and put-up canned eats !!!

I don't know what these guys are complaining about - we haven't gotten any snow here a snow blower couldn't handle since I moved here . . .
