Decided to back out of buying the civic last minute. It needed more repairs than the car is even worth. Entire front end needs to be rebuilt, wiring harnesses need to be replaced, engine needs some major work, traction control system has an issue that I can’t pinpoint, every single error light is flashing, one of the wheels is cracked… I guess that’s what happens when you put 175k miles on a car and never do any maintenance work.

It’s not worth the time and money I’d have to spend getting it road worthy. Especially with a baby coming in March, the last thing I need is another project! Mother-in-law is coming to visit in a couple weeks. We told her this car needs to be gone by the time she leaves.
Sounds like the Civic is ready for the recycling bin. No maintenance will do that even to the best of machines. I’ve owned four Accords (80, 84, 88, 90) two of which I bought with over 150k miles, and two brand new. I bought a new CRV in 2019 that I traded in for my 2021 Ranger, and I just bought a 2016 CRV in June of this year from a friend and it only had 22k in nine years. Never had a single problem with any of them but like my Ranger, they were all very well maintained.

My Ranger will be five years old next month and has gone from seven (7) miles when I drove it off the lot to 148,500 absolutely trouble free miles up until last week. I started getting a growling noise and found out the drive shaft center support bearing is going out. This truck has had every single maintenance recommended by Ford and goes in every 5000 miles for whatever it needs. I cannot say one bad word about this truck and from what I read in here, I must be very lucky. Ford supposedly has a complete new drive shaft on order telling me there are only three left in the entire country. Why they would put a two piece drive shaft on a small truck is beyond me but that is another story. I am beyond happy with the way this Ranger has performed. My new car days are past so I gotta keep this one going.

Anyway, sorry to hear about the Civic, good luck on your build, and especially CONGRATULATIONS on the expectant little angel…..

I already give my government enough taxes, I certainly don’t want to give them anymore. In fact, it’s now payback time - starting this month, the Canada Pension and Old Age Security cheques start arriving.

As a bonus, there will be pension payments from previous employers and a provincial top-up, free prescriptions and dental too.

Man, I should have gotten this old way sooner! ;)
Been on pension for 12 years next month and Old Age Security (love that) for nine years and loving every minute of “old age”. Well, except for the creaking, and popping noises when I go from horizontal to vertical in the mornings. Sounds like someone eating a bowl of Rice Crispies with all the popping and cracking. Too bad the joints don’t have grease fittings.

Haven’t committed yet but thinking about turning the ranger into an offroading monster… It currently has a 3.5” lift on 33s. It’s my daily driver so I didn’t go nuts with a big lift and bigger tires.
We recently purchased the mother-in-law’s Honda civic and I’ll be using that to commute to work from now on. I’ve been considering turning the ranger into a project truck… Bigger lift, 35 or 37 tires, regearing the transmission, total suspension rebuild… Basically turning it into a crawler. Still undecided 🤔
I like my Ranger too much. I went the other way and got an old Jeep.

That's got some pre '78 Bronco vibes. Very cool!

No pictures yet but I did purchase a used lariat cab wiring harness to see if it'll allow the headed power seats to receive power from the factory harness especially knowing it has the upgraded dash harness for climate control but who knows 🤷‍♂️

Wishing I was retired
I did a couple things to my Ranger today to improve its look and function. Thought I would share

This morning I had all the windows tinted. I had them add 5% tint to all the back windows to black it out and put 75% tint (ceramic to block UV) in the two front windows. I think it looks perfect. Oh, I also de badged the vinyl 4x4 sticker from the bed. Those things look so cheep to me.

Then after I got my truck back home, I installed my Bakflip MK4 bed cover.

A good day for me and my Ranger. What did you guys do to your Ranger today?
Love my BAKFlip MK4. The fit is so perfect, It looks like a factory seal along the the rails and tailgate. Nice work @Hambone437. Did the same, debadging the 4x4 sticker. Got in trouble though... My wife liked the 4x4 stickers on the truck.
