I have an XLT with the two USB outlets on the back-side of the center console and I'm thinking about upgrading it to be able to "through charge" a solar generator and power a portable fridge/freezer. Has anybody done this and if you have, is it plg-and-play?
THANK YOU!

You may want an inverter for other things, but I would not install one for this purpose.

Small refrigerators are nearly always 12V DC to begin with. Converting from DC to AC, then back to DC, is very inefficient. If "solar generator" really means "battery pack with built-in inverter, " that will also require DC to charge. Both the refrigerator and battery pack are commonly supplied with an internal or external power converter that will allow you to operate or charge it in your house on standard 120V AC power, but also run directly from the vehicle 12V DC system on the road. Staying all 12V DC is the best way, but be sure to size the wiring and fuses to minimize voltage loss at the maximum rated power draw plus startup current.

The "solar generator" I'm probably receiving has both AC and DC out as well as the capability to charge from AC or DC. I'm considering keeping everything DC now though, out of consideration of cost. It'll be about $250 in parts, from what I've seen on Ebay, to put the 110V in the console. The DC charging from the cigarette lighter on the battery pack is way slower from the DC charger in a vehicle (13 hours), but I wont have to change anything in the truck.

I thought it was going to be as simple as buying the correct back panel with the outlet on it, and just plugging it into the harness. But I found out there is an invertor in the truck also, and that's not as inexpensive!

Huh, I have an XLT that came with 2 usb on back console and 110v plug?
The 110V was part of a package that my truck didn't have. I just have the two USBs on the back side of the console. I only had one on the dash until I added the LightForce switch panel with another dual USB point.

When you receive the battery pack, you can determine the maximum charging current. I would hope that a higher-amperage connection than the cigar lighter socket would decrease charging times.

Hey can I borrow $5 for lunch? Mr High Roller!
I entered a sweepstakes and (probably) won it. I got a message that I won and I will have to provide info on the 17th. ?
