Is there a way, besides visiting a dealership, to check the software/firmware version on my 2019 Ranger? I want to ensure I have the latest updates for my transmission.
I have Forscan and have already updated Sync 3 via USB from Ford's website, but I assume Sync isn’t related to control modules.
My modem works, and I have 3 months of free Wi-Fi. Will updates for the PCM and control modules come over the air, or do I need a tech? Any tips on checking versions, the best updates for engine/transmission control modules, and how to get them?

Forscan wil show you - current calibration levels etc for the PCM, however you will need FDRS (Ford Software) and a Expensive (Passthrough) J-2534 capable adapter to perform any updates or scan for updates. The cheapest cable adapter is the Mongoose Plus @ $540.00 and then you will need FDRS or a high-end scan tool to actually perform any software updates and logged into a ford account for access.
So, depending on what you want to spend - Dealer is the best option, unless you already have the proper tooling.

You won't be able to update the PCM over the air. The PCM controls the transmission.
