Y'all are way overthinking this. If you don't like it, have it turned off with FORscan, a tune, an aftermarket device, something plugged into the AC outlet in the back seat, or push the button. If you do like it, let it ride. You don't need to shut off the truck and coast into a parking spot or your driveway.

I've never turned mine off. It rarely activates because of the battery management system my normal drive is 18 miles on country roads and then three possible stops in town in the last two miles before I get to work.

Looking at getting a ranger in a week or two, whenever the dealership gets the one on their site that says in transit in.

So if I go to park someplace, the engine will shut off. That part makes sense since I'm not moving but are you saying if I leave my foot on the brake and shift it to Park and leave my foot on the brake, the truck will start back up? If so that seems pretty stupid.

So is the turning off the vehicle while still in drive and then shifting to Park an ok thing to do?
It won't mess up anything?
A lot of the trucks on a dealer's website that say in transit are already sold because they were ordered. My truck which I ordered and is being shipped now is on their website for sale. Many people on this site have experienced the same thing. This happens automatically, I called the dealership about mine being on their site for sale. So if you are waiting for one in transit it may already be sold.

And about saving gas with ASS. If you were getting 20 mpg and got a 10% increase in gas mileage that would mean in a tank of gas you would have to save 1.8 gallons of gas. At an idle the ranger burns about .3 gallons per hour. So to get that increase you would have to be stopped at intersections with the ASS working 6 hours per tank.

Thanks. I thought that was the case but also thought you could leave your foot on the brake and park without it starting so figured it's best to ask...:sunglasses:
Here's a challenge for all 5G Ranger drivers!
If you ease up on the brake as soon as the truck stops, keeping just enough pressure on the pedal to hold the truck in place, the ASS won't engage. Try to keep the truck running without using the Off button, Trailer Tow or Sport mode in rush hour traffic, ramp meters, drive-up ATMs entering a car wash, etc.

Fun for all ages!

Turned on my ASS when gas hit $4 recently, but wasn't seeing much of a difference, so plugged my night light back in on Sunday. Wasn't worth the annoyance for .4 MPG increase.

I had wondered about that when I had looked because it said in stock but I called about it, they supposedly looked and I was told I could put $ on it to reserve it so that I can go test drive it and buy if I liked it before someone else committed to it
I guess we'll see

I wasn't really worried about saving gas. More or less wondering how A.S.S worked

ETA: After your comment, you got me to wondering because people do make mistakes so I shot off an email to the dealership and got a quick reply that they checked to make sure there were no reserves on it and the $500 I put down holds it for me. Said they'd let me know when it shows up..

Kind of nervous and excited. First time I've spent this much on a vehicle. Last vehicle was new also but it was right at $28K with taxes and fees and rebates for a car. I wanted to get back to sitting high again after owning an Explorer back in min 2000's. The XLT Ranger I'm looking at is just shy of $40K with tax/fees. It's selling for MSRP. The plan is to finance for 4yr instead of 5, maybe try to get it paid off in 3.5yr. but I looked at some used Rangers and they are the same price as new or just $1-2K different. Saw a 21 XLT Crew for $34K and 16K miles, saw a 19 XL Cab with 17K miles for $31K at those prices you may as well buy new and get the full warranty, put your own miles and first farts in the seats LOL
