Transmission issue (adaptive learning question)

The past couple of days I've had an issue where my transmission will hang gears and shift harshly when first driving. It only does it for a very short period and It only happens when the truck has been sitting overnight or when I'm leaving for home after work. My question is, would a transmission adaptive reset solve this issue? I have a '21 Tremor. Thanks in advance!

I should add once I'm on the road, it shifts normally.

It is kind of a known issue that shifts can be harsh/clunky until it warms up. I usually let mine warm up until the fan quiets down and then drive it easy for a bit. Once warmed up, it shifts fine.

I let it warm up for about 5 minutes before I start driving. It has also been pretty warm outside also.

This is a known issue with the 5th gen ranger. What might help is replacing the DPFE sensor and doing a reset. I tried this with mine, it worked for a week or so, then the harsh shifts came back. Unfortunately, you might be seeing the early warning signs of a bad transmission. Welcome to the club lol

If your truck is still under warranty, take it in for service as soon as possible. My wife’s transmission was replaced and it didn’t cost a dime out of pocket. My ranger was past warranty when I started having issues. When it’s time to have it addressed, I’ll be eating $7k.

I replaced the DPFE sensor not long ago as a preventative. I had the transmission fluid and filter changed at 40 ish thousand miles. Im at 82,000 now.

I think it is time to do another fluid change - and add lubeguard platinum....

The fact that it only does it when cold to me is a key symptom. If it were the transmission going bad, or even the adaptive tables needing reset I would expect it would be consistent whether warm or cold - but that is just my armchair quarterback opinion. A fluid change (its been 40k miles since the last one) seems like a reasonable thing to do at this point. I'm sure the fluid is pretty dirty by now.

I just scheduled an appointment for Tuesday to have the fluid changed, a new filter and Lubeguard platinum put in.

Took my Ranger in on Tuesday and got the transmission serviced. Woke up yesterday to find a small puddle of ATF under my truck. Took it back first thing and they said a couple of bolts weren't tightened down. I also had them perform an adaptive reset since I'm pretty certain they didn't do it on Tuesday. Its still shifting a little rough when it's cold, but otherwise it's shifting smoothly.
