@900 miles I turned my beautiful Ranger in for a transmission leak. I was told it was the output shaft seal. I waited almost 3 weeks to get it back. Now after another 800 miles, the bastard is leaking again. I've contacted Ford to find out how to start the buyback process. I'm am pissed off. There is only 1700 miles total on this truck. Is anyone else having this issue? I'm debating on taking to the dealership where I purchased it or the dealership that did the repair.

Hi Nick,

Dollars to donuts, the dealer did not find the problem when they installed the the tailshaft seal... I would recommend taking it to another dealer for a fresh eyes look at the problem. It may be the dealer did a lousy job on the seal install too.

Very sad you are having this problem with your Ranger.

It has a heck of a shudder in 4th and 7th at low rpms. I'm wondering if there are other issues in the transmission causing the leak.

Hi Nick,

I do not really know the interworkings of the 10 speed, but it very possible there is a link between shifting harshness and your leak... Need fresh eyes to look at the problem.

Sad :(

I don’t think you will qualify in any state with under 30 days down and 1 repair. It won’t hurt to get Ford involved and put them on notice.

The 10-speed in our 2020 Explorer started leaking within the first 2-3000 miles. Turned out to be an issue with the transmission cooler line.

Seemed to be a common issue with the early builds. Dealer fixed it under warranty without hassle. Gave me a loaner, since the service advisor thought it’d be a couple of days, but their tech knew what the issue was immediately and I had the SUV back within 3 hours of being dropped off. At 18,000 miles now and haven't had an issue since, including with the strain of towing an RV cross country and back.

Don't know if it's the same transmission as our Ranger (doubt Ford would have multiple 10-speed transmissions available) but it could be the same thing here.

I really hope that they figure it out. In the meantime, I'm in a brand new Mustang. That should do really well on the back roads when I go camping. Lol.

This will be repair number 2... But I have contacted Ford. I agree with you on it being to soon for a buyback.

There are actually two different 10 speed transmissions. The 10R60 in the explorer or the 10R80 on our trucks which is heavier duty and higher torque rating. Apparently there is a big stink going on right now as it appears the new bronco is coming with the “weaker” trans but it’s mostly speculation at the moment. The transmission is one of the best parts about the 5G ranger hopefully they get yours sorted out.

Update... Same prognosis as last time. Leak at the output shat seal. Techs sent a request to Ford to come up with a solution. I say, throw a new transmission in and let me finally drive my truck more than 800 miles without taking it in for more warranty work.

not sure what kind of seal they use, but in my job, seal changes are common.
you win some, you lose some. they dont all go in without problems.

there could be a score on the shaft or the housing, no matter how many seals you change, it will continue to leak.
is it worth changing a whole transmission over? no, but they should be taking a closer look on attempt #2
I disagree. I'm not going to drive my truck for 1 week, take it back to the dealership for 3 weeks until they fix it again for the rest of the life of the truck. If it happens again, I will be doing a lemon law. There's not 1800 miles on the truck yet. I paid way too much money for this kind of bullshit. I've had the truck for almost 2 months, and it's only been in my possession for a quarter of that time. The rest of the time it's been on a rack getting worked on.

I'd expect the bronco to have a significantly lower tow rating, so the 10R60 would make a lot of sense. Is there any compelling reason for it to have the same transmission as an F150 that can pull like 18000 pounds? If you're never going to use the capacity, it seems silly to cart around the extra weight.

I assume the internet drama queens are in full form over this bit of nothing.
