I have a 2022 ranger xlt with about 32,000 km on. So far good little truck, no problems

however, the big air intake under must let in a lotta rocks/road debris. Lotsa little dents minor damage to transmission cooler. Mostly city driven with highways mixed in but rarely on gravel.

asked dealer about nose bra or something but they said anything blocking intake would void warranty

anybody else notice this issue?

Err, there's 3 coolers in the front of your truck. Radiator, intercooler, and AC Condensor.

Transmission is cooled/warmed by engine coolant.

I've thought about putting a mesh of some kind in the gaping lower hole on mine, but haven't gotten around to doing it yet. More concerned about big road debris rather than small dings.

Something like this.

You are saying that debris is getting all the way to the driver’s side of the transmission case above the front driveshaft and hitting your cooler? That’s insane!

Hmm, I assumed it was transmission cooler. I have tow package. Its a long cooler and the only cooler visible in that gaping hole. And its starting to get quite dinged up. The grill insert looks perfect! I am a bit amazed there isn’t one there stock….

As posted, it's the inter-cooler for the turbo....carries air not liquid.
Just get a Putco or Mountain to Mountain lower grill insert and problem solved.
I have the Mountain and was one of the first mod's I made...simple 5 minute install.
The intercooler is above that area. It is only from the bumper up and completely covered by the upper grill and a little of the bumper. The only things in that opening are the ac condenser and radiator.

I never liked that opening in the bumper. I really feared something shooting in there. I did buy a guard off eBay. I spent around $65. Bought the silver one and painted it black. Even with the paint it was cheaper than buying the black one.

Good info here guys, ordered putco grill
Thanks for response, appreciate it!
I have one.
Only takes a few minutes to install and makes a world of difference in the look of your ride.
In my opinion.

Just to clarify the whole transmission cooler topic. Every Ranger has a transmission "cooler". More correctly a "heat exchanger" mounted to the side of the transmission. It is tied into the engine coolant system and uses the coolant to warm the transmission up to operating temperature and will keep from going above the engine temperature. The 10R80 is actually designed to operate at or slightly below the engine coolant temperature, which is approx. 200° F. It really doesn't like cold mornings. ?

What gets me is, when I asked about covering it up they said it would void my warranty.
