Phil can tell us for sure, but I'd be very surprised if any of the engineers have anything to do with the naming of vehicles. I'm sure that is all the marketing folks.

But I agree, some of the recent naming is rather odd. The maverick in particular.

Recycling the 'Maverick' moniker for this vehicle was appropriate. 'Pinto' (or anything else) just wouldn't have cut it....

Keep hearing rumors that Stellantis is going to bring the Ram 700 to the US and release a new version of the Dakota. If the do it will be more competition for the Maverick and Ranger respectively.

Those rumors have been alive for years. No sign of either happening. It's actually why I bought the Ranger.
