Elon is all about over promising and under delivering..... I used to think he was a visionary but others have helped me realize he isn't really all that smart - he is really good at surrounding him with very smart, creative people and letting them do their thing.

But to answer your question - no I would not trust the engineering on this. I keep going back to the reveal of the Cybertruck and the demonstration of the "armored" windows - when they tossed a ball at it, the windows shattered - and it wasn't even thrown very hard:

It is flash over substance, IMO - I can only imagine what is going to happen with those thrusters if/when they ever get released into the world for any yahoo with more money than brains to use.
I don't recall Elon over promising and under delivering. Perhaps not 100%. But notable accomplishments are reusable rockets that has re-defined space travel by lowering costs by 2/3. He failed at that quite a few times but it is now a weekly reality. Starlink is another example where he promised worldwide connectivity anywhere. Starship is the other one. They're very close to delivering on the Starship's promise of huge payload beyond orbit on a reusable ship. Tesla Bot. Fremont, California factory is well on their way to begin deliveries. FYI, the Tesla Model Y is the best selling car IN THE WORLD. So the promise of electric vehicles dominating the industry has come true. Don't hang on to every word he says then look for gotcha moments, like many of his haters do. (like the Guardian or 60 minutes!). Look into the substance of the message then observe the accomplishments. And of course he doesn't do it alone! That's obvious. He inspires his people and drive them to greatness, and in return his companies accomplish amazing things that nobody has ever done and struggle to catch up.

Hating on Elon is everyone's right. But I will always remember this: Back in 2023 when every car manufacturer and dealership were screwing buyers up the ass with ADM's and sky high MSRP's, Tesla lowered their car prices worldwide. This helped so many consumers at a time of extreme price pressures. The lower price arrived without de-contenting the product or lowering its performance. You see a villain and liar. I see someone who is helping to chang our world for the better. Take the man out of the loop. Look at the accomplishments of his companies instead.

I don't know where you're getting your information.

Space X has 708 launches in its history with a 99.58% success rate.

Yeah....but if you happened to be on one of the .42% then the failure rate is 100%.....
Luckly the one's that went boom were not manned.....

Yup.....cars that self destruct by catching fire and cars that commit suicide by crashing into other vehicles when in self driving mode......
In 60 years I have never had a "regular" vehicle spontaniously catch fire, and I have never had a "regular" vehicle fight me in an attempt to commit hara-kiri.....

I realize that statistics mean nothing unless you compare them to something.

NASA, Russia, China all have around 95% success rate. That includes manned missions.

You have a 99% chance you will survive an automotive crash in the US. That leaves 1% chance you won't. You have a 95% chance you will not experience an Airline crash. That leaves 5% chance you will die in an airline crash if you fly often.

Gramps, there is such a thing as AI who can do excellent research for you. I've never had a gas powered car catch on fire. But my friend's Ford van recently (a few months ago) did catch on fire while he was driving it! It was an AT&T service van 2014 model. Leaked transmission fluid all over itself while on the freeway, first smoke, then loss of power, then fire.

Per the most recent US Transportation Data:
For every 100k gas powered cars, 1,500 catch on fire for a variety of reasons.
For every 100k Tesla electric cars, 25 caught on fire.

While Lithium batteries can overheat, and require special fire retardants to put a fire out, with proper electronic safeguards they are less likely to combust. Meanwhile, gas powered cars are way more volatile. We are literally driving around in vehicles filled with combustible FLUIDS, starting with the fuel tank, oil reservoir, & transmission reservoir!

" Most Tesla crashes involving Autopilot or Full Self-Driving (FSD) are attributed to driver inattention and misuse. Federal regulators (NHTSA) found that in the majority of analyzed incidents, drivers failed to brake or steer to avoid hazards despite having sufficient time to react. "

That was by design, don't man them until they're ready.
