So one thing I've noticed with my new trans - it doesn't skip shifts. Is this normal?

I mean at normal acceleration the trans will do normal upshifts from first to fourth in sequence?

And as I stated in my trans terror thread its gotten significantly better with each day?

Interesting. That would seem to be a software thing and not a mechanical thing. Wondering if they flashed it with a newer software for non CDF issue prone transmissions? And then of course wondering if the TSB flashes were a bandaid to mask CDF issues.

Update: So, my truck is at the last level of repairs after performing all the software updates and valve body overhaul. After all that dealer is still seeing harsher shift from Reverse. So they will now do the CDF Drum. The dealer is also replacing the driveshaft and awaiting parts. The warranty after all the service is performed is 12 months 12,000 miles since I do not have extended warranty coverage.

Mine got a new driveshaft as well while they were wroking on the transmission. Wondering what's happening with the driveshaft. Seems like a lot of people are getting them replace recently.

Seeing the driveshaft has to be removed to do the transmission work maybe they’re catching that the slip yoke isn’t slipping like it should ?

I’m getting my transmission looked at on June 24 for hash shifting due to CDE drum too. I told them the truck shutters when I let off the gas and press the gas. Almost feels like a hard shift but the truck hasn’t shifted. Could that be the driveshaft?

It’s possible and worth asking them about. Mine goes in on June 13th for the last step of the TSB ( already had reflash and valve body replaced) and though I haven’t had the shudder issue I’m going ask to have the driveshaft inspected if they remove it to do further transmission work.

Update: I got the truck back after transmission overhaul. Drives like a dream, hopefully it stays that way. They gave me 12 months 12k warranty for the transmission since I’ll likely be out of warranty period in few thousand miles. Driveshaft is on back order, so I’ll be waiting for that to be installed once the dealer get the part.

Well I've been doing alot more watching and it seems that the "adaptation" has proved me a liar - I've seen it skip 2nd pretty constantly now since I'm not always taking hitting the accelerator hard on take off. Also I'll see 5th gear skipped as well.

So, I’ve been paying attention on how the shifting is ascending as well after my overhaul. Ford re-flashed SW and told me that it will take some time to re-learn the patterns. If I accelerate at normal speeds, it skips going to 4th and goes straight to 5th gear from 3rd, very smooth. If I go slower than normal speed it does go into 4th and still smooth shifting.

When my transmission was having issues it was the jerk from 3rd to 4th that kinda made me go in for the troubleshoot.

After they replaced my valve, the transmission would skip 4th gear. It started going into 4th gear again and started doing the same jerk so it's at the dealer again. They were not able to reproduce the jerk, but they are looking into it.

They are also replacing my EGR and fuel pump since the computer was throwing code for those.

I will keep an eye for it. I got 12 months to decide if it will happen and/or if I’m willing to deal with this process all over again if this issue comes back.

Skipping gears is ok as long as they’re smooth. Have you tried tow haul to see how the pattern goes?

I’ve only towed once, and don’t plan on towing anytime soon.

I do like how the transmission is reacting now and I hope it stays that way. Skipping gears is fine and my shifts smooth.

I used tow haul mode even without towing anything. It just had a better “feel “ to it than D. I was just wondering how tow haul felt with the updated goodies. But I’ll know soon enough as I’ll have my mine back this afternoon with a new updated transmission.
