Ok , PRETEND this is properly welded pipe and not scrap fittings from me junk pile , 1 1/2 PVC fits inside the hitch tube but it's a little loose , not sure what metal equivalent will be , may need to sleeve it, 90 straight back to a T , works on both sides that way (OCD deal breaker). Would need to drill 2 holes all the way through the tube , also can catch the bolt on the bumper bracket out near the step , should be solid ... Can be moved down and more under the bumper also but I kinda like it out...

Have to scrounge around at work for some real pipe ... IMA DO IT !!! , Still pretty buzzed though , may reassess when more sober...

As I vape and think about it , those are NOT bed steps , I'm in too good of shape to need those , those will be "rear bumper sliders " ... That you can step on ...

I have the Deezee step on a super cab Sport 4x4, not sure why you say it wont fit ?
My bumper only has two bolts on there and the instructions showed three iirc. Since I am missing the bolt closed to the bumper, I mounted it on the only two bolts I had and it barely sticks out past the bumper. I contacted them and they were like oh yeah it doesn't fit your model. Yours does not look like this?

At that point just get a tubular pre runner rear bumper. Plenty of holes to stick a foot in.

A few beers and a different strain of weed has me thinking that right after the 90 ,i weld on 2 inch square stock and i should be able to use the "hitch step" of my choice ! maybe even a flip down one . My weld skills are slow and unsightly at best , this would keep the ugly part under the truck...

When I reached out to Amp, I got the same answer. I picked up the Weather-Tech receiver step. This is the Weather-Tech step.

What is it for? Withe gate down there is no way you can use it. Beyond climbing into the bed what do you need a step for? I could see it if you want some protection from low speed rear Enders.

If you were able to attach it using those 2 bolts, than you have correctly installed it. The 2 holes in the step will only line up with 2 bolts on the frame.
It's not supposed to "stick out" much past the bumper.

I had to put the tip of my boot under the bumper to step on it. Didn't look anything like the picture.

I'm going to surmise that you don't have a factory tow/hitch set up, therefor you have a different rear bumper/bumper bracket set up. I am willing to bet that if you can reach your fingers over the area where the 2 bolts are, you will find a third hole/captive nut....those are used when the factory hitch is used along with a different bracket and bumper.
Your bumper step has the 2 pre-positioned holes that will only line up with 2 bolts...even if the third bolt/hole were there, you would still be using the 2 that you have attached the step too.
Step is not supposed to stick out far, and it may feel like it too far under the bumper, but that's the way it's supposed to be.

Here...I took a few pic's of mine..
First is looking straight down, you can't even see the step
Second is just backing off a few feet...you can see the step is still tucked under the bumper.
Third is from the side, and it looks just like the step in your photo.

Yep that is what mine looked like. No trailer hitch bumper. I couldn't use it like that with size 12 steel toe boots. I just step on the bumper instead. But I don't like doing that because not only is the bumper space very small with the tailgate down, I feel like one of these days I'm going to kick and crack the taillight.

I hold on to the tailgate and use the hitch depression on the bumper to climb in. I then, thanks to the "damper", lower the tailgate from inside. The factory spray in liner plays havoc on clothes and knees climbing in, but not as bad sitting on tailgate to get out.

Unlimited fittings from the mountain of plumbing stuff between home and work pushed me to make a working prototype to mount up before I get "a step ahead of myself " ...
I still like the hitch step idea but those are pricey, then x2 it , and I threw my old man step in the damn trash !!! So I have to finish it now...

Interesting but looks like it will be slippery when wet.
