I often crack jokes about puff hair brotruck kids on this forum and sadly this recent news story so far as is checking off all the boxes;

https://www.foxnews.com/us/north-ca...ck-struck-killed-girl-during-christmas-parade

20 years old + brotruck. This thing has it all, including the circular rim lights.

" Others reported hearing tires screeching, screaming, and the vehicle's horn blaring at the time of the accident."

Sounds like little billy was trying to show-off his pimp ride and ****ed up bad. I'm not buying the "lost control of vehicle" (as in mechanical failure) angle.

Kind of like the meme's and videos of Mustangs and parades or crashes at cars and coffee events.

Tool a read and im with you. I doubt it was a "Mechanical Failure" unless the throttle decided to stick or breaks stoped working. Best part was him having a gun on person when im sure he had no good reason to have it in the first place.

What had me pissed was only getting a Misdemeanor. @OFC Ranger would that technically call for a Felony?

His hair should be a felony , but it did say he was pulling a float I think , were people on the float ? I can't imagine him being that big an ass pulling a float with people on it , or in front of it and hitting the throttle on purpose , and people said he was yelling he couldn't stop , something more nefarious maybe ? If truly an accident ,why any charge and why not say "it looks like a horrible accident " , which they didn't, more to come methinks , hard to tell how many "bro's and beers " have been working on that truck though ...

There is no unified codex for types of murder in the USA among the states. As far as my state, Georgia, this would fall, in my best guess, under involuntarily manslaughter; " Involuntary manslaughter is the unintentional killing of another person. The killing must result from illegal or reckless conduct by the perpetrator. The maximum penalty for involuntary manslaughter is ten years in prison."

In my state there is no such thing as a misdemeanor and homicide. All categories would be a felony as far as I can recall.

Bingo. My initial guess is he was screwing around, realized in a split second things had gone south, and he reverted to his child like nature of "it wasn't me" and blurted out the first thing his brain could contrive. I can't count how many adults I've dealt with where you catch them red handed and they instinctively still try and claim innocence.

I've never encountered someone arrested, booked, and charged in such short order when a true mechanical accident has occurred. For it to be criminal first you have to pose the driver had the knowledge, that takes time, in all other circumstances its going to fall under civil court for the purpose for lawsuits.

I don't want to see it , but I'm sure there is video of it , maybe that contributed to the early charges...

I thought when someone plows into a crowd the parlance was "caused by a Truck" or "SUV". Odd for them to use the word "driver" here.

Why did he not throw the damn thing in Neutral?
The truck was moving "out of control" for about 20-30 seconds...
Even allowing for initial brain-freeze due to panic, that's enough time to take a breath and turn the thing off or put it in Neutral or Park.

He could have had an issue with the truck since witnesses apparently confirm that he was yelling out the window that he couldn’t stop the truck “before the crash”. But he was clearly too inexperienced to respond to the emergency. Seems he could have engaged the emergency brake, or shifted out of gear as mentioned. In any event, a tragic outcome.

I love a good parade, but it seems to be common place now as per the media stories in recent times to become an event where mass casualty incidents can happen, either by accident, or on purpose.
I might forgo my local Xmas parade just in case and watch the Macy's parade on TV
