pulling into the garage last night, with Auto Start-Stop turned on, and the front collision sensors beeping like mad, the Ranger stalled. I wasn’t expecting that, it was such a hard stop I thought I had hit something. Anyone else experience this yet?

Was is the auto start/stop that engaged shutting the engine off (like it restarted automatically once you lifted off the brake or put it in park)? Or did the engine actually stall?

If you're going slow enough, like barely crawling along at a snales pace with your foot pressing the brake, I've noticed at least one instance where the Auto Start/Stop will cut the engine. Basically I think it thinks you should've come to a stop by now based on how long you've been crawling and how slow you're going. Maybe it's because the wheel speed sensors aren't sensitive enough to detect a fraction of a mile/hour that well so the truck thinks you've stopped since your foot is on the brake and has been for a certain amount of time. I know this'll be fodder for those who despise the auto start/stop...

It was a clunk like I would have expected from stalling a manual transmission. It did not start when I took my foot of the brake but it did when I shut off the auto start/stop.

Interesting. Then I guess I don't know what that was.

This isn’t exactly the same thing, but has anyone had the auto start/stop engage when you stop but the engine doesn’t restart when you take your foot off the brake? I haven’t yet, but when I was doing a test drive at the dealer the salesman said that if that ever happened to just turn the key off and start it up again. Now, every time the thing engages when I stop at a traffic light I worry that it will not restart when I let off the brake. I kinda wish he’d never said that!

I don't have a key, so that would be a pain. My friend, who is also on here, has a Ranger and had that problem. He needed something reprogrammed to fix it.

I've crept up on something real slow and had the auto start/stop kick in while I'm still moving a bit. Scared the hell out of me, I was pulling up tight behind a brand new Range Rover on the ferry! Started right back up when I eased up on the brake.

I experienced this once with mine. Was pulling into a handicapped spot to park as I had my grandma with me. I was trying to creep up on the spot without hitting the pole while learning the dimensions of the truck in relation to the end of the hood.

The truck was barely creeping as I was “milimetering” in auto stop/start kicked in and it was a heck of a jerk. Even grandma thought I’d clipped the handicapped parking pole.

Lesson learned I’m much less liberal with the brake creeping in and use the sensors (weather permitting) haven’t had a repeat incident.

Ever since it got cold (below 30 and I have used the heater) my ASS has quit working. Should I be worried?

Kinda shocking to hear the truck will stall while creeping. I have an MB (horrible car, first and last Mercedes), and the way to keep it from turning off is to creep super slow. Sounds as if Ford has a calibration issue with one of their parameters.

It’s dangerous for me, it did it again today while pulling into my garage, I lost power steering. PITA

drive it like you stole it with Grandma, dont waste that premium fuel piddling along. Grandma loves the adrenaline rush too.
rest assured good sir....she’s had oh moments more than once. Gotta keep that heart pumping.

best was when I took ol blue down back roads which hadn’t seen anything with rubber in months. Cackles all around. Well except her “your grandfather would be p*$$ed” I’ll take it as a sign of approval lol
