Hey guys when I first start the truck it'll make this squeaking sound, like when you bounce a little on an old box spring mattress. It'll do it for a couple of seconds then stop on and off a few times then goes away at around 30 seconds to a minute of running. Just curious as to wth is it. Thanks in advance

Need a bit more data...where is your guess for the origination of the Squeak? Under the hood? How loud? Are you in park or drive? Running down the road or sitting still? Sitting over night or any time you start the Ranger hot or cold?

These sort of concerns are very tough to locate, particularly if they go away.

luigi - I experience the same phenomenon upon start up. As you described the noise seems to disappear within 30-60 seconds after start.

Phil - my best estimation as to the location of the "squeak" is definitely under the hood close to the radiator. It is an intermittent sound that doesn't seem to follow a pattern. I able to recreate when I remote start after the truck has been sitting "cold" for at least 6 hours. I don't believe I've experienced the noise while driving or once the truck has warmed up.

Hi Luigi,

Like Ted...I would recommend focusing on the BOV which is in the area of which you suspect is the noise. I would recommend taking it back to the dealer for a diagnostic check and indication of a noisy BOV... See what they can find.

Here is a tip, I believe I have mentioned before, but will again. For difficult to pinpoint squeaks, noises, etc, a cheap mechanics stethoscope is very helpful. Take the diaphragm and metal rod off so you only have the plastic tube. Now you have a very directional diagnostic tool which when wearing the ear pieces allows you to search for a noise source. Especially good for wind leaks.

Yes. It’s really the only item in that area that can make an intermittent squeaking noise

Sorry should have been more specific. I just started the truck after sitting probably an hour. Had the hood open and i heard the noise 3 times and sounded like it was coming left side of engine area looking head on.

Good question...I have no idea of how this is calibrated. The Ford BOV is either on or off...no modulation...maybe leaking? Maybe others that have modified their BOV with aftermarket kits can comment?

Mine used to squeak until I installed the GFB DV+VTA. I would have to imagine the noise is due to the valve being made of plastic and having 0 lubricant (at least mine was dry). After replacing diverting valve no more squeaks

Great. Did you notice a difference in performance after the installation.

It gets rid of the lag off throttle, and makes for an overall smoother driving experience

I'll just chalk it up to a personality "quirk" of the Ranger. I'll try to capture a video of the squeak, but I have been looking at installing GFB's DV+.

Found the source this morning. That bar moves back and forth and squeaks when it does.
