So i live in ND. Bought a 2019 Ranger XL Stx about a 9 months ago. Was pretty worried about winter with it being RWD. Shopped endlessly for the right snow tires: studless vs studded etc.
Pulled the trigger on Michelin X-ice, added 300 lbs of sandbag weight in the truckbed and the result so far?
Surprisingly good! If it loses grip it’s only for a millisecond and it re-grips. On ice. And hard packed snow. Astonishingly well. I was pretty worried about this coming into winter, so this was good news. Actually gets around better than my 4x4 Dakota. Anyway for those who might be thinking of saving a few bucks and picking up a RWD in a cold snowy region, there is hope!!
I did buy separate dedicated rims for these tires which i recommend. So, i saved $ with the purchase of this vehicle but did have to invest in new rims and snow tires - but in the end, i feel i saved plenty overall and so far am a happy camper.
