Snorkel

Haha I definitely agree with this. I can’t imagine ever really needing a snorkel. And most of the guys that I work with that have them admit. It’s basically for off road cred more than oh shit I plan to run thru 4 feet of water.

I’d rather replace an alternator than an engine. You don’t need the snorkel until you do, just like most everything we put on our rigs. If I ever hit a deer, I’ll be grateful for my front bumper. If I ever have to drive through heaps of mud, I’ll be grateful for my KM3s. If you are a mall crawler, yea, street cred. Nick Cannon modded out a tundra with a snorkel. Doubt I’ll ever see him on any trails.

I think I told this back story before but maybe not. We have a test at Ford for forwarding water up to a given depth at a given speed. Almost all Ford turck passed this with flying colors, but not the F250/350 7.3L turbo diesel. When the test was conducted the vehicle created a bow wave that was ingested by the diesel air intake and hydraulically locked the motor and blew the crankshaft through the oil pan. The fix was a simple baffle to deflect the water.

I was in Australia two years ago and engaged several WildTrack owners with snorkles. They used them to get the air intake above the dusty outback where we were to fill my bucket list of touching Ayres Rock...Which I accomlished! So I appreciate the snorkle for those that wish to use it for practical purposies or looks... Just not for me...

Dude if you plan to run thru 5 feet of water more power to ya. If I come to 5 feet of water.....I’m just turning around. Problem solved.

Congrats on checking off an item from your bucket list. I bet the trip was amazing. I’d love to get out there and do their iconic 4x4 camping destinations, pilbara, Vic HC, Fraser, Simpson, etc. I’ve got a buddy that moved back there a couple of years ago. One day.

I ordered a Safari snorkel today. I hope to never have to drive my truck in water deep enough to need it. But, I have already been out on a dusty trail, sixth truck in line, and had to clean out my air filter. Getting the intake up above the dust will be nice. Plus my truck is developing an Aussie Ranger look.
