I have the same deal, my wife and I both have rangers and both have the same smell. Would love to know what to tell the dealership. I'm concerned about it over a long road trip. We are making one this weekend so we will see.

Check your filter. My old Chevy has a tell tale smell of burning when too many pine needles and dust gets in the system. Thankfully it’s as easy as pulling the filter out in these newer vehicles. That old girl requires flushing out the system with a hose.

pull the filter out and just knock the crud out of it and put it back in. Boom should fix it

There is actually a commercially made spray for the musty smell coming from A/C vents. I can't remember who makes it though.

Are you thinking of Ozium maybe? I've used it in a few used cars that had been smoked in and it worked pretty well. It has a citrus like smell at first that goes away fairly quickly and does a pretty good job neutralizing odors. Much, much better than Febreze for sure. Febreze just masks smells for a bit and doesn't really neutralize them plus I don't like the smell of it. :)

There is a product called Frigi Fresh that you can spray into the intake of your system. It might help.

there's a heating coil to get the air warmed up faster, and it will smell like newly heated electric coil for a while. it's really hard to diagnose "a smell"

I wish I knew how to contact you all.
the Ranger has a problem. I’ve tried everything but can’t get rid of the smell.
my dealer says he can’t smell it but everyone else does. Keep reporting it.
it may take awhile but I’m not giving up.
honestly I bought 2 and they are both doing the same thing.

Hi Patrick,

There are threads here on various smells. A/C condensate, substance on the heater core etc. Your dealer is jacking you around in my opinion. Contact Ford Customer Service and file a formal complaint. Then find another dealer. Formal complaint allows the dealer time to investigate. One owner had a dead rat in the ducting... This should be solvable, but your dealer sounds like he is worthless, of which many are unfortunately as they are independent of Ford other than the franchise agreement.

Best,
