It really is carpentry. Saws and drills, hammers and jigs. For me extra scary as I always was the worst in wood shop. I will never forget the pained sympathetic look my mom gave me when I brought my first project home from wood shop, two of the sorriest looking salad fork and spoons ever made by a 7th grader.
Well it sounds like your doc did better in shop class than either of us lol and lets be honest the tools we used and the ones the hospital have are vastly different in quality and precision lol

Definitely, on both counts, at least for me.

Yeah I dabbled a bit when I was younger my dad is a huge woodworker our garage has zero vehicles and all wood and tools lol best thing I made was a pair of wood swords, painted and engraved full 9 yards for my brother and I to beat the crap out of each other with lol any other projects I tried havent gone well, one time the belt sander vibrated off the table and my reflexes made me shoot my hand down and hit it with my right ring finger and that was the first time I ever touched one of my bones lol, since then I have done a lot fewer projects lol

My dad wasn’t a big woodworker per se, we had a table saw and a belt sander but no lathe, etc. He was a mechanical engineer and incredibly creative. I was the only kid on the block with a repeating rubber band rifle. I won the Cub Scout pine wood derby races going away. But truth be told, while I made the car, ever detail of its design and execution was his. If it had been left solely up to me, it would have been a rolling square block with a Tundra style painted on front grill, losing by feet… :(

Hey Bill,
It certainly looks like you came through it like a trooper with your prolific posting , great news!!

Get well soon!!
Thanks Andy,

Other than my 20 mins of ambulatory time every 2 hours with my walker, all there really is to do is talk with friends on Ranger5G and doze off when the tramadol kicks in…

I also watch a little MLB (until I doze off, kinda like the Tramadol ;), just waiting to heal. :)

I really do feel like I am doing as well as I might expect, but that is all the doc and the team at the hospital. Amazing people.

I really appreciate the well wishes, this is a great group.

? you were really worried going into it, probably overthinking anything that could happen but hey it sounds like you have a great hospital staff and doctor ?‍⚕ that took care of you!!! The plus side is everyone on this forum pulling for you too. You ain’t getting out that easy ?

I was concerned, I think the staff kind of sets you up for worst case, so you will be pleased when it isn’t so bad, but I also keep waiting for the other shoe to drop with some kind of bad set back.

Right now, I am kind of cruising, last night was a little tough, but all day today, very low grade pain and I cut my Opioid dosage in half. When I think of all the sawing, drilling, grinding, screwing the socket in place and pounding the ball into the center of the big bone, and yet not as much pain as I was getting from that joint before the fake hip was installed. I am kind of stunned. :0

The only doctors I know of that get their 'surgical instruments' from Home Depot and Ace Hardware! :like:

I didn’t get to see, I wonder if they are like off the shelf B&D and Makita rechargeable drill motors, recip saws, die grinders, etc. or something specialized all brushed stainless looking things?

They said, they would put me out in the operating room but the last thing I remember was sitting up all hunched over waiting for the needle in my spine, if I felt it, I don’t remember it.

I would have liked to know if he was a Makita guy or some knock off brand? :)

Glad your home and progressing well. Serious surgeries make me uneasy. The waking up part, are you going too? With me even though I come out of antheshia poorly I am so thankful I am fighting with the nurses for a bit. ??
