So I've started formulating my own ideas, but anyone with experience have a suggestion for sealing the perimeter of a metal garage installed on compacted gravel? This is more for water than bugs. I have a slight slope around the perimeter of the install location, drainage channels in the retaining wall, but I am a fellow who likes his redundancies.

Caveat; I am not running a concrete sill, so the answer has to be something else.

The first and easiest idea is running a thick smoothed out bead (for lack of better description) of mortar or concrete around the exterior of the base frames. This would all be covered by landscaping rock to hide the crudeness of it.

On another note I discovered (maybe old hat to some of you) this stuff called "DirtGlue". Kind of the same premise as brushing out bags of concrete on compacted gravel with a light watering for dust control and some added strength, but purpose made.

I will say my compacting job has done an very good job on the gravel. While there is a very light layer of loose pebbles on the top, if you brush at it with your hand I found the gravel underneath is rock hard and smooth.

So my plan is to just build and paint some workbenches from good old fashion woods. While I was at home depot yesterday picking up a dump trailer I noticed these:

I really dig the industrial look. The tops long term would need to be replaced with something meant for a workshop (they appear to be a laminate over what is my guess, fiber board). Two of these on the back wall would work nicely to utilize 12 of 18 available feet and give me plenty of room to mount bench tools and have working area. Would run me $800 for two of them though.

Of course stick built from scratch, while wood prices are high now, would be far cheaper, but I don't mind pimping my garage out a little. Whatcha think?
Saw those in person, They actually have a metal top painted to look like wood. Preety sturdy though.

Hi Folks,

A 1940's Tambour Sessions clock just left my shop after a full restoration/conservation in my shop...Mother's clock for a neighbor.... One six pack of Pacifico was my charge. Clock is worth about $60, but it is his mother's so treated it with care. Dust and Junk out of this clock was amazing...my shop vac had to work overtime....

Here is the completed restoration...It was totally trashed....No glass bezel, hinge total bend and the brass surround for the glass was collapsed. Lots of care to get it looking like a clock for the 1940's...

I restored It so does run but the owner elects to just display it with a pix of his departed Mom...

These projects are "feel good"... I use my expertice and get little if any $.... I call this the good neighbor policy.....

Phil

Looking at your garage makes me want to clean up mine. Such a nice, clean and orderly garage makes us others ashamed.

You don't even have mold on the walls.
This is a low maintenace storage area...just add items as needed

I was much better at adding things than deleting them. ;) We lived at that house for 19 years. When we moved I had to hire a guy with a stake bed truck to make 3 trips to the dump. Man that really hurt.:LOL:

I'm the same way...always keep too much stuff...thinking I can use it sometime but never do...and dread to let it go :frown:
