I was looking to buy a Ranger for sometime and in December spotted an XLT Tremor on a dealer website which was an incoming order not taken yet. I made a deposit on that truck. The dealer told me that the truck will arrive very soon just within couple of days but that time was pushed forward again and again due to shipping delays, holidays etc. The truck has finally arrived but I am little apprehensive now taking delivery of a 2021 vehicle in 2022. Never done this before, buying an older vehicle in a next model year. There are no special incentives for the last year model too which might have nudged me to close that deal.
Any suggestions or comments from the members for my situation please.

Last month I bought a '21 XLT 4X4. Situation similar to yours...ordered by the dealer and "in transit" when I committed to it. I'm not the least bit sorry I did it.
But if the '22 model has something you really like/want that the '21 doesn't then you may want to hold out. Otherwise, I don't know why you'd be disappointed.
Good luck to you in your decision!

It's still a new truck, with no changes from 21 to 22.
I would try to get the price lowered, or some dealer added accessories. If they or not willing to deal an a '21, tell them you will find a '22 elsewhere.

Edit 1: And I've seen many dealer websites say, 'in transit' or 'arriving soon'. But I think that's just to get people interested. My guess is it's not 'in transit' until someone wants to buy it.

Edit 2: Before I bought my '21, a local dealer had a '20 XLT 4x4 with lift and tire package. He was asking 34K, down from 39K (yeah right) I offered 32K, but he would come lower than 33K. I would have bought that '20 had he accepted 32 for it.

If I found a truck in the right color, trim, options, etc., I would negotiate for it regardless of model year. Ordering one for later production is another story. At this point, I’d be tempted to wait and order a 2023.

Depends on how urgently you need one. With production delays being what they are, I'd be tempted to grab one that's available. But if time is on your side, why not wait for a "22?

I keep Checking local inventory for a Ranger that pretty much matches my build (truck gets built Tuesday). Everything I find is either a Tremor (slightly more then I wanna pay but can make it happen) or a base model XLT. One I did find was sold in transit, Ill just wait for my truck, I'm in the home stretch (I hope....).
only change for this year is the splash package, so unless that's something that interests you, grab what you can or prepare to wait.
