Not sure what happened here, but a buddy sent me this rather poor picture of a Ranger with an apparent shotgun hole in the tailgate. Hard to see in the pic, but he said he could clearly see multiple small holes around the rather large hole.

A damper probably could have prevented this. Poor driver most likely got startled by the tailgate falling so fast he pulled the trigger. Never attempt to put your weapons in the bed without a damper.
