I recently hard mounted a 12v compressor to my rack and am using a small ATV winch cover as a stop gap. I am curious if a company (not necessarily vehicle related) makes a hinged ground enclosure lid sized on the smaller end?

So far my searching is yielding much larger products, generally made for things like cable/phone/electrical junction boxes meant to service an entire street. (those green boxes outside your home by the street). Makes matters more tough is ideally I just need a lid, not an entire unit.

I've tried searching for terms like "generator enclosure" and "hinged RV roof enclosure" etc etc not having much luck finding something the size or function I need.

Just checking here for ideas before I have to build something from scratch.

Glad to see you back, Jack. You have one of the most creative and innovative builds on here, and I enjoy seeing what you come up with.

Sorry, I can't help with the current query; I suspect that this will have to be another custom job.

Search "valve box"....used for the underground valves for a sprinkler system... ?‍♂ different sizes, no hinge, but you could make it hinged.

That is perfect, just the type of shape I was looking for. Thank you

And to make it even better I can get these at local DIY stores.

Standard height is about 3" shorter than I need, but I can remedy that easily with a trim plate. Actually that is probably for the best so the hinge has proper clearance.

Just need to bed line it so it blends in and doesn't look like what it actually is. lol

Edit: Hmm I could just not do a hinge as this has some precut pipe openings I could use in a different way then just pop the top of air circulation when in use. Hmm...

It’s in no way water sealed in case that matters. Those tops just snap in. You mights seal it with some foam weatherstripping. As for a hinge, maybe build a box under the box with the hinge on the short side so it can clear when opening?

Yeah I'm not looking for waterproof just element resistance. If I go with the hinge design I would seal the top.

With a little work, you could add vents to whatever box you use. Then add 12v fans, such as those from computers or other equipment. When you turn on the compressor, fans would come on. No need to open the box.

Well lucky me. I remembered I had an old SKB utility case lying around in my garage.

I had to remove the steel base off the compressor, but its fits. Just barely.

Now to just figure out a final mounting point.
