Looks like a competitor to a ridgeline, its a 'car' with an open trunk space on a uni-Body. I laugh when guys look at it then as 'Gee ya think it will fit a motorcycle, be good for off-roading.." It's a niche utility vehicle like an el camino, ranchero, courier or sport-trac.

If its on the new 2020 escape architecture then it might be a good contender for the same/modified Atkinson Hybrid drivetrain system..

My mother-in-law bought an 02 Subaru Baja new and still has it to this day. Outside the poor head gasket design of that generation the car is possibly one the most versatile daily drivers I have experienced.

I have hauled motorcycle, car engines, yard stuff and all kinds of random things in it. The ranger feels like a lifted version of it. Is it better then the Ranger? Not for what I wanted it for but for most people’s needs that type of layout is almost perfect. Sadly it’s just not “cool” looking so people opt for something they will rarely use like an f-150 or something with less features like an escape and the same price.

If the Baja had a 2” lift, rear locker and could tow 5klbs... might I say it would almost be perfect. Just think if Ford made a maverick in tremor trim ?
