Anyone remember the Royal Castles and White Castles where they had 12 cent hamburgers. They were all over.
How about Lum's with their cooked in beer hot dogs ?
The original KFC's....my grandfather opened the first one in South Florida in Hollywood at the corner of US 441 and Hollywood Blvd in 1958. We moved from New Orleans in 1959 so my dad could help him with it. I grew up on KFC....remember every order was basically made to order. You got 3 pieces of chicken, mashed taters n gravy, cole slaw, and a biscuit for $1.29. Met the Col....he would come around un-announced to check up on each outlet and if he didn't like what he saw, would close you down till you got it right.
Howard Johnsons with their 29 flavors of ice cream and all you can eat fish and clam Wednesdays for .99 cents.
Original Burger King opened in Miami on NW 36 st and 32nd ave with .39 cent Woppers and fish sandwiches, .15 cent hot dogs and .25 cent shakes.

Remember these?

Another fond memory was being the technical sort I was always sent to do the mimeograph lessons. I used to get high as a rat doing it too. Being a hyper kid think the teacher figured out it calmed my ass right down for the balance of the day!

Had a 3rd grade teacher that smacked you with a wooden (oak) 12” ruler on the back side of your hand while flat on the desk. Or if you really pissed her off got the earlobe yank out of the room.

The precursor to the fidget spinner. Had one.

Did anyone else subscribe to Mad magazine? It was a different type of humor for the days.
I never was into Mad or comic books all that much. I'd check them out at friends houses but never really bought them.

But we did play with Silly Putty. We'd press it against the women in magazines and try and make their boobs bigger. ?

Can you imagine what the millennials (or anyone not from the Boomer generation) reading this thread must think? You guys lived through hell and are bragging about it. Lol ?
It's ok. You can forget about us Gen-Xers. We're used to it.

We remember all this stuff too. We're just still working so we don't have time to sit around reminiscing.

"Workin' For A Livin'"

Somedays won't end ever and somedays pass on by,
I'll be working here forever, at least until I die.
Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't
I'm supposed to get a raise next week, you know damn well I won't.

Workin' for a livin' (workin')
Workin' for a livin' (workin')
Workin' for a livin', livin' and workin'
I'm taking what they giving 'cause I'm working for a livin'.

Hey I'm not complaining 'cause I really need the work
Hitting up my buddy's got me feeling like a jerk
Hundred dollar car note, two hundred rent.
I get a check on Friday, but it's already spent.

Workin' for a livin' (workin')
Workin' for a livin' (workin')
Workin' for a livin', livin' and workin'
I'm taking what they giving 'cause I'm working for a livin'.

Ooh, workin' for a livin'
Ooh, taking what they giving
Ooh, workin' for a livin'
Ooh, ooh

Bus boy, bartender, ladies of the night
Grease monkey, ex-junky, winner of the fight
Walking on the streets, its really all the same
Selling souls, rock n' roll, any other day

Workin' for a livin' (workin')

HI Steve,

Okay...a bit of a back story.... Margie and I married 18 years ago. I was retired from Ford but she was still working as a Legal Analyst. So I took on the job of preparing dinner as well as cleanup and doing the dishes. One day I decided to fix Chili and then before Margie got home, a small pot of spaghetti. So I presented her with spaghetti topped with a cup and half of chili. She was dismayed... I told this was a dish item at Steak and Shake drive ins. Steak and who??? Stake and Shake. She never heard of it... much less Chili Mac. Turn the page two years ago when we were at our Michigan Condo where our handicapped daughter lives. Daughter said there was a new diner called Steak and Shake opened up near the condo. I suggested a lunch at this new Steak and Shake. Margie opened the menu and there it was. Chili Mac... She could not believe it... I ordered it but, Alas, not what I recall...but to this day I still dine on Chili on top of spaghetti.

Best,
Phil

I shit you not.

As I'm getting ready to head in to work I got the email notification about your post. Picked up the phone, read your post and thought "Amen!"

Put down the phone to put on my boots and somehow opened up Pandora. This song started playing...

Sorry to defile the memory thread with modern stuff, bit the more things change the more they stay the same.

Happy to contribute.

I'd rather help y'all out than pay some douche's college bills.
Hi Doug,

What????? How can you deny paying for someones Art History Major... There are SO Many jobs for such a key Major of study.... Why I even interviewed for Engineers a total of ZERO Art History Majors grads.

Best,
Phil

Don't worry Phil. You are paying for woke 101 also. When I grew up you paid your own way even if it meant working 2 jobs and 100 hours a week. Times sure have changed.
