I'm trying to figure out why you are having trouble figuring out what to do. If it were me I would spend $100 just to get by especially if I was struggling a bit. If you don't have the funds to do the swap that you want, haven't looked at and taken care of under warranty. It's actually possible that it might not even be the rear axle.

Let's hope that it's nothing to serious.
I am waiting patiently for a post on here saying that you drove your cool little street/strip Ranger into the 12s.

Once I get the rear diff issue solved, I will be back at the track for more testing and some 12 seconds time slips

Here is my dilemma, my truck is having some issues with the rear differential it has some noise and vibration
1) do I have ford fix it under warranty for my deductible of $100 which brings it back to stock (open diff)
2) wait until February for my Ford schooling money and upgrade to a locker
3)do both
Take into account that I drive 60 miles a day for work and unsure if the rear diff will make it until February driving it like in stole it lol
Patrick,
Just for the hell of it, I would pop the pumpkin cover and check out the gear set out. If there is no oil, not good. If there is any galling, scuffing, or scoring on the gear teeth and or spalling on the bearings, you will see metal residue in the pumpkin: flakes, chips, pieces, then there is a problem. If it is just the bearings, not too tough to fix. Then you don't have to screw around very much at all with adjusting lash etc. replace the both carrier bearings. Make sure you use the same shim pack on the same sides and wash the pumpkin with a bio-safe solvent, Like ethanol or isopropanol.
Semper Fi,
Bill
