I call it my 4 wheel drive Fusion, traded a 13 Fusion plus a 04 Dakota regular cab for my Ranger. Grand kids love it almost as much as my wife's Town and Country but it has DVD. So seats like a sedan, but has the versatility to haul a couple of bikes in the back plus I have my little utility trailer if needed. This all makes the Ranger more of a practical family choice than a sedan for me, can't speak for others.

OR..............those with grown kids and need more bed room to actually use the Ranger...... as a truck.

Oh the horror!.

I would have ordered a regular can with a 6.5 or 7 foot bed if one was available.

People actually buy a truck to use as a truck.
Who cares? Sheesh. Buy the cab and box combo that works best for you. I’m a single guy with no kids, but I only have one vehicle so I went with the SuperCrew so I can take people if I want to. It also gives my dog a good place to ride. As a homeowner the 5’ bed is still good enough to haul most things I need to haul. Others might find a 6’ bed to be more useful and don’t care about a smaller cab. Whatever. Buy what works best for you.

Amen brother!

Some of y'all need to quit assuming your method of use is the only way to treat it like a truck. I've got a supercrew that'll comfortably fit 4 adults when I need it to and gives the kids plenty of space for long rides. Throw a topper on it and build out the bed a little bit, and I'll have a comfortable riding all-rounder that I can camp in/overland with when I choose. Buy what makes you happy and let others do the same!

Exactly! Some do. I've got a SuperCab that'll comfortably seat four adults when needed.
Some had to trade off the advantages of a short WB for the extra space of the SuperCab.
Some had other compromises, like tolerating a 4WD profile on a 2WD truck.

I love my SuperCab and I'm glad they make the SuperCrew.
Sedan or Coupe are now the only choices...
Ford actually used to advertise the SWB RegularCab Ranger as a SportsCar with a big trunk.
That and some other choices are gone now, sacrificed on the altar of demographics.
What we are left with are limited choices which all exceed expectations.
This new Ranger is a great truck in all its forms.:like:

Still, Imagine ...
A 3200 pound SWB RegularCab version of the Ranger with all the same components except lowered, a one piece driveshaft , LS differential, 350 HP, and a nice fat set of Nittos

I never expect or intend to ever put a human in the back of my "supercab". I have a nice sturdy dog-hammock slung between the headrests, this will handle most cargo and the occasional dog or two.

2019 Ranger Lariat, crew,
I have believed for years now the best family vehicle to own would be a 2wd F150 with 2.7 ecoboost crew cab with a Fiberglass tonneau.

You can sit 6 adults comfortably, you have a vehicle trunk that will easily carry hockey bags, and our weekend project lumber.

And you get 25-27 MPG. you can trim it out so it is as plain or beautiful as you like. You are plenty high up to see what is coming at you.

And since you will probably have to park a fair distance from where you are going, you get built in daily exercise! :)

I actually had one of these and loved it..... but our family left the nest so we downsized to the Ranger.

i AM 6'2" and weigh in North of 250 typically. I can fit in the back of my Ranger crew cab for short trips around the city....no issues.

In my f150 I could live in the back of the crewcab! :)

It's too subjective a subject to have a single "best" family vehicle. Your solution is something I could see my cousin doing. 3 kids, no dogs, lots of paved roads in his life.

I have 2 kids and 2 large breed dogs, so we've always preferred Crew Cab smaller trucks (for parking and the ability to fit onto old forrestry roads back home without killing the vegation) with a topper so the dogs have a comfortable space to chill! My Ranger will fit that bill once I put the topper on it for sure!

Now, in 12 years when the kids are out of the house, I will probably want at least one extended cab version, so I can throw a whole camping setup in the back without compromising the looks!

I love the seat belt setting mentioned in the article, I use it everyday. And you can fit 2 car seats or 2 people under 6’ in the back, so why drive a boring old sedan?
Not knocking the Ranger but generally because they are cheaper, faster, handle better, ride smoother and get better gas mileage?

Sednas can't carry anything more than a few bags of groceries or pieces of luggage!

The full sized crew cab pickups are the modern equivalent of 1960s-1970's full sized cars like the LTD, Grand Marquis, Caprice, Newport, etc.

Agreed. Which is about what 90% of vehicle buyers do 100% of the time.

I don't care if someone WANTS to buy a truck they don't need. Just stop pretending to need it.

I have a truck that I need. When I don't need it I drive the car.

I guess mine is a bit of a family vehicle as well, although my family isn't too big (just me, my wife, and my youngest daughter). I didn't necessarily need a truck, but I do prefer a larger vehicle due to long legs and a bad knee. I own a sedan and getting in and out is sometimes hard (and painful on a bad day), whereas I can just glide in and out of the Ranger without bending my knee and putting weight on it.

I had a 2016 Explorer before I got this truck. The size of that was good, but it was a lease so it had to go back, I wasn't sold on the 2020 Explorer and definitely didn't agree with the new price point. A buddy of mine got a Ranger a few months ago, and I loved it when I saw it in person, hence I got one myself lol
