I live rural on Lake Erie shoreline, with 60 or so retirees and cottagers in my little community. There is at least eight 5th gen Rangers within that 2km strip, but I know that's disproportionately high. There's also 40 or more full size trucks from the big 3. Almost every house here has a truck in the driveway.

Thanks for remembering me!!!

I still got my Ranger, still loving it. I'm 5 years & 4 months, 132,000 km with no significant problems yet.
Good to see you again, Jay. Glad things worked out with the house in the end, and glad to hear the dogs are doing well.

Mine's a Nov. 2019 build which I've had since Dec. 2021, and have 142K km on it. Aside from that one time the turbo crapped out on me, it hasn't given me problems.

Hey Jay - good to see you around the forum. Are you getting this crazy haze from the wildfires?

Yes we are, but it really just started today. I had the dogs out at 1am, and could see the stars with a clear sky, but now it looks just like your photo. I thought I was back living in Hamilton again, lol.

I was trying to remember, I think there is one in Kelowna too.
I think I might have seen that one! Dark metallic grey right? We spent a few hours in Kelowna and ate lunch in an excellent smokehouse. Beautiful town on the edge of the lake, beautiful sunny day, people on the little beach and some in the water, until I felt the water temperature!!! What is wrong with you people!!!! Do you know that on average your summer is about the same as our winter on the best days, way colder on some of the worst.

Haha, we ore rugged northerners.

I was supposed to travel up to Kelowna last year but too many life issues so have to re-plan that. My wife had an uncle who owned a bunch of land there.

Next time Cam travel a little farther south down to Arizona. We could meet up in Sedona and show you around and hit the Grand Canyon. The weather up there isn't as hot as the Phoenix area as it's at 5,000' - 7,000'.

A quick summary, we flew into Toronto via Vancouver (a bloody long flight from here) visited Toronto, Niagara Falls, Quebec and Montreal. Flew back to Vancouver and did a bus trip around the Rockies - beautiful scenery. Ended back in Vancouver, flew to Denver to visit our friends in Westminster for a few days. Saw and did a whole pile of stuff including, Pikes Peak, -wow, the Amphitheater, Coors brewery (a highlight) some great rock formations, white water rafting - another highlight, visited the Carousel and a few of the little towns in back woods Colorado, and had lunch in a number of little smokehouses and craft breweries- all excellent.
Flew to Fairbanks and toured down to Anchorage. Allegedly it was summer - I'm not so sure. Once again fantastic scenery. Flew back to Vancouver and boarded a cruise of the inside passage to see Alaska from the other side. Rode the old gold train up into Canada and back. Finally flew home from Vancouver, and lost a day in the process!

Great trip- friendly people everywhere congrats to both countries to showing us their best!
Our US friends are already planning our next visit for us it seems!

Thanks Dave! We did visit Arizona once in summer many years ago - felt right at home! Once again fantastic views when you trip around.

Glad to hear you and the dogs are doing well! sorry to hear about the builder and building troubles but sadly that's par for the course now. IIRC he said you'd be in there in like 9 months. But better late than never and now you can get your life back to normal.

I'm doing well, thanks! We had out own adventure and yes we moved out of Arizona to the Ozark mountains in Arkansas. That lasted about 18 months and now we're back in Southern Arizona in a much smaller city (23,000) and at 3,000' so much less summer heat. I had my own builders nightmare which you can see here if you're bored one day. I guess it was a blessing in disguise and we're happy here now. I still have a 5G Ranger, got a Tremor this time right before they changed over and it's (knock on wood) doing great too. Good to hear from you and hope you stop in more often. 🙂
Congrats on your new build! I don't know about living in AZ though. I know it's beautiful and lots of things about it I like, but the heat is not for me. I'm in Canada and wear shorts most of the year. The only time I wore pants this last winter was while I was at work and didn't have a choice, lol. I literally do not own pants that are not work wear.

Ya, 9 months, lol. The builder initially told me I'd be moving in about 90 days from ground breaking. The house is only 1100 sq feet, square bungalow, nothing complex, 1 bedroom, 1.5 baths, completely unfinished basement, so that's not unreasonable. The fire was 16-Nov-2022, ground breaking was March 2024, and I moved back in 20-Dec-2024. I could write for hours describing all the fkry and excuses, but I just get worked up even thinking about it anymore, lol.

The one unexpected easy part to the whole thing was the insurance company. I've never had a claim, neither house or car in my life, but have heard countless horror stories about dealing with insurance. I was expecting them to be the biggest problem moving forward, but they were excellent in every regard, at every step. The fire was Sunday morning at 6am, I had a contracted adjuster on site before noon. He set up an email deposit to hit my bank account the next morning. Inspectors, investigators, and adjusters were all in action within days, and things moved fast and easy. There was no fighting over contents, or proving what I had, they just accepted everything on my word, and settled accordingly. I made additional content claims almost a year after as I remembered other things that were missed initially, no problems.

I'm definitely going to look at your build thread, maybe toss in a few comments on my own for comparison if anything jumps out.

Thanks but the new build didn't work out so well but you'll see once you read it. lol I can totally relate to getting worked up as I still do just thinking of all the unnecessary BS that went on with our build. The Phoenix area is just way too hot and we're in southern AZ now at 3,000'. While it can still get hot during the days June-August the rest of the year is just about perfect for us.

Glad to hear you had a really good insurance company and they took care of you throughout the whole process. I think sometimes people don't realize how important that is if/when you have a major claim like you did. I've seen many who had bad ones when I worked for a fire & restoration company and how the owner had to get involved and help the homeowners out because they had a bad agent/company. That's the last thing you need to deal with when your life has been turned upside down!

That's definitely thicker than it is at my place. That crossing is less than a half mile across. From my beach, I have an open line of site that's just over a mile, and I can see the houses on the far side still. I'm about 30 miles north of that bridge, but as the crow flies, Detroit is closer to the fires than I am. Crazy world that smoke travels 500 miles and stays this thick at ground level.

That water is about 2.5 miles across. And 30 miles north of that is still in Michigan. Sault Ste Marie is about 50 miles north of the Mackinac Bridge. Are you thinking of Port Huron/Sarnia?

I'm sorry, I thought you meant the Detroit Windsor bridge. I'm over 200 miles south of Mackinaw. Mackinaw Bridge looks more like 4+ miles across the water. I don't have any references points I can see at that distance, but gauging the short view, I'm guessing we are probably similar smoke to that.
