Hey gang!

Our esteemed member @Jhbryaniv had asked me if I could whip this up for the group to make our own tailgate letter stickers; and I have!

EDIT: .svg format added

Link to Download The Graphic (Vector Formats: .eps, .ai (CS2 Legacy and CC2023) Preview Formats: .png)

What this is: Vector art for the tailgate stamp of our trucks. This is for guys that want to DIY their own sticker with a vinyl cutter or you could alternatively take this file to any local-to-you sign shop and pick out your own material and have them cut the letters for you. Note: Cut the "R" twice! :D The finished product will look like a graphic inlay that covers the deepest part of the emboss stamp on the tailgate. The bevel surrounding the letters will still show as body color.

What this is not: A printing service. Sorry guys! I'm an artist - but I don't even own this equipment. This is for guys who want to DIY their own sticker only.

Instructions: This file has already been sized out so turn off all scaling - print at 100% The full "RANGER" graphic I provided more as preview. I recommend you print the individual letter files and place them one by one on your truck. These files are also sized for your truck. All I really need is a guinea pig to test this out for me. (Probably John!) I'll make any necessary adjustments if we find any for a final rendition. I'm fairly confident the overall size is pretty much there.

Happy printing guys and I hope we're happy with the finished product! Again I'm available for alterations so we can verify a final file.

Ohhh, one of the guys at work has a ranger for his work truck...

I'll have to cut it out this weekend as a paper template and try it out. :)

Sounds good. I wouldn't be surprised if some tweaks are needed. If it's really-really off for whatever reason I can paper template as well.

Maybe start with a few letters. I recommend G as a candidate and maybe A. They are the ones that I think maybe a bit off because certain aspects of the curves are hard to measure.

Thanks for the feedback guys and I'm happy the files will already get some exercise.

You're too kind but we will see how much of an undertaking this ends up being before we go that far

One thing I thought of sitting here is once we know the template is correct - it would probably be useful to have a file that is vectors only with no fill color just in case the fill color confuses a plotting machine - never used one so this could be me overthinking it per usual.

While I'm at it I might as well output a thin line version but I won't get ahead of myself!

Good Day my fellow Ranger family, hope everyone south of me had a great Thanksgiving Holiday so far. Has anyone cut the letters out to see if they fit good? I changed the files over to SVG so my wife can cut these on her cricut cutter, don't think I will be able to do this till after winter cause of I don't think they would stick to while to cold metal

I also got tall gate letters from TDVinylDecals and they look as good now as they did when I put them on over 3 years ago. Using the wet method made it very doable.

I haven't tested them yet as I was kind of hoping someone from the community would pick that ball up and I would make alterations as necessary but if nobody tries them I'll give them a shot when I have some downtime. May not be for a few weeks, however, during my holiday break.

Thanks for the heads up on the .svg format, though. I will include that in my link. I had wondered if .svg would be required. As a graphics guy it's not a format I use ever but I know it's a popular vector format!

I search several sites and of course the endless array offered by China via Amazon, but couldn't really settle on the design or colors available until I stumbled across TDVinyl Decals. I chose a color, but didn't care for it when it arrived. They accepted it back without question and sent me a new set. I purchased the set that includes the Tailgate, Front Grill and Dashboard, but asked them for different colors for each. I have Gray for the Tailgate, Titanium for the Grill and Silver Gray for the Dash.

I was nervous to do it myself, but their instructions were perfect. I used mildly soapy water and they went on very easily and I was also able to squeegee out any air bubbles. Once dry, they adhered well and look factory (in my opinion).

To follow up, I'll try to add some pics for each for your viewing pleasure..

Joe - I added some pics of my lettering, including the dash in the post above. These are Silver Gray. TDVinyl Decals offers several different color schemes and they also allow you to mix them up as I did for my truck. I might add, the decals were easy to install, if you follow their instructions with warm mildly soapy water and a spray bottle. Some people remove the tailgate when installing their letters so they have a flat surface. I did not do this, but I could see how it might make it a little easier? If you just keep everything wet until you get the lettering positioned to your satisfaction.. You will also want to use something like a narrow plastic putty knife, or similar tools (even a credit card), to gently smooth out your lettering and work the water and bubbles out. Once the water dries, they adhere extremely well. - For the grill and especially the dash, I used a Q-tip with the cotton swab nipped off. This way you can work it softly into the corners and then press it into place. The dash took me into extra innings, but again, if you keep it wet and take your time, you'll get it in place.. I might add, I am NOT a gentle hand at anything and can get impatient with stuff, but this was not a bad job and I had everything done, even with taking my time in about an hour (+/-).
