If some of you remember I had , well, my wife had the brakes 'malfunction' on the Ranger.
The brake line was rubbing on the wheel & the fluid came out @ 5000km.
All was taken care by dealership & all good.
We found the brakes felt better after that. Now many here were not happy with 'spongy' brakes
& were saying something was wrong. Some bled their brakes & it was better.
So I was just reading Glocker's brake post & someone else mention that during
autoX they would not put the hand brake on. Any autoX or HPDE you should not.
Now, something else we do is a 5 sec brake test, where you push on the brake &
it stays firms, will not go to firewall.

Has anyone tried this, as I have a '07 Escape & it does not pass the test, I shall fix.....
I just tried that on the Ranger & it did not pass either, my foot slowly, within 5 secs, hit
the firewall. This was not expected, I suspect air in the lines. The truck does stop well, very well.

Anybody test this? Can some of you test next time your out?

Simple test, with engine running, press on your brake hard & keep pressure for 5 seconds.
Just for laughs, try it cold & try again once they warmed up.

Tks.

Before I comment...need more info on your test conditions and how hard you are pressing etc. The brakes pass FMVSS and Canada braking standards which are rigorous tests. What I felt and others felt or feel is pedal feel/confidence and this is to a degree lacking... It was signed off for production by a Nitwit that I know well...Technically inept, and is a huge negative in my book, but I am now retired and he is a failed big cheese that did not make it to VP ranks to which he thought he was destine. Wish he read these forums and saw this but he is so inept he likely cannot turn the on switch of a computer without his secretary's help.

best,
Phil

Hi Phil, hope all is well.

Simple test, press on brake pedal hard, kinda like a panic brake, so hard but
softly, so push like you would normally & when it stops going down, push harder.
My BRZ brakes won't budge. It does have high heat fluid but I don't think that makes a difference. My motorcycle brakes don't do that either, no way can I get the lever to the handle bar. Only time I saw that was with air or a leak.
What other info would you need?
Shit, I should check the reservoir maybe the system is leaking?

If you initially get a pedal then it slowly sinks to the floor is usually an indication of an internal leak in the master cylinder if you have no signs of an external leak.

I think something is wrong here....Take it back to the dealer for diagnosis. Sounds like an internal leak in either the HCU or master cylinder..

Phil

Air in the system isn't going to cause a sinking pedal. Air is far more compressible than brake fluid so it would compressor first on pedal application. This is what is normally felt as a soft, spongy pedal. If you did indeed had a leaking MC or ABS pump, you'd likely notice at longer stoplights as your foot would eventually end up on the floor and you'd end up having to pump to maintain pressure.

Phil this made me actually laugh out loud. After 35 years in a GM plant working across many departments I learned early to figure out the people who were capable of getting things done with the safety and quality of the product first, and the "Nitwits" as you so nicely put it, who were completely useless and wanted that f****** line running now and fix it later. Many people would be surprised at way company politics, and union politics too, play such a huge role in auto design and manufacturing, and too many of the egos are more overinflated than the Firestones on an old Explorer.

And I would bet a months pension that you had a big smile when you hit the post reply button on that comment:clap:

I'm a dufus! Upon checking again today it does not go all the way down but stops like an inch before. Guess it works as designed. Fluid is full...

I need another
