Question regarding used tuner

I bought a livernois mycalibrator tuner used. Its still in shipping. No turning back.

If the previous owner unmarried it with their truck before selling, am I going to need to contact/pay Livernois to have it reset or should I be okay? Are the tunes on the mycal for our ranger able to be used on any VIN or are they VIN specific?

I'm pretty sure you'll have to contact Livernois regardless because the tuner links to your VIN.

Livernois gets your VIN when you buy the tuner and connect it to your truck.

Then the tuner contacts Livernois and they load the tunes specific to your VIN.

Moving to a different truck means all tunes will have to be overwritten.

I'm also pretty sure you'll be charged to reload the tuner.

They may have you return it an pay the license fee an they will unlock it for you. Depending on how much you paid for it you might come out a little ahead or be SOL.

That's odd, I feel like if it's the same software it should work.

I just got off the phone with livernois. If it's the newer mycal touch then I will need to call them and pay 300 to have it reset. If it is the older 4 button version then I am good to go. Still waiting for delivery but I should find out today. Hope this helps.

So I got the newer touch screen tuner. Had to pay the 300 to get it reset to my VIN. They were very fast and helpful on the phone. 300 basically gets you lifetime service with that VIN. Unlimited tunes, revisions, adjustments etc.

I emailed them the same question for my SCT X4 and their software does not work on that. They offered me a $200 refund to send in my SCT X4 and switch it out for their device instead. I then moved to a new house and cannot find my tuner for the life of me, which is another whole problem in itself... From my research it sounds like I would be able to buy a completely new tuner and tunes, but never be able to truly go back to stock. Anyone have any additional info/thoughts on that?
