Question about Tonneau Cover and Spray-On Bedliner

So now that I've got my Ranger (which my 11-year-old has insisted is named "Truckie"), I'm starting the process of adding some accessories. Two of the big ones are a spray-on Line-X bedliner and a Truxedo Deuce bed cover.

I called the Line-X shop today, and they said its preferable for them if I wait to install the Tonneau cover until after they do the bedliner, because they can't spray everywhere they need to if the rail's installed. I'm getting the under-rail liner, and he said they can apply a material to the section they spray on the lower rail beneath the back window that will help the weather stripping (or whatever it is) that gets applied there adhere better.

My question is whether anyone would anticipate any other issues with having the bedliner installed before the Tonneau cover? Anything I should do to prep before the bedliner's sprayed on? Anything I'll have to do differently with the Tonneau? I get the impression that the Line-X is fairly thin, so I'm hoping everything will remain copacetic, but we'll see, I guess!

(I'm also adding an AMP bed extender, so I'll also accept suggestions on whether I should install that pre- or post-liner.)

The tonneau cover can absolutely go on after the spray-in bedliner goes in. I agree it is best to wait until after they spray. No prep needed for that.

As for other accessories you may want to add… let the shop doing the bedliner know so they can plug the threaded holes you will utilize. Easy to thread in a sacrificial bolt just a couple turns and then remove after the liner goes in. Otherwise, you will be chasing the threads before you can install your hardware.

What Dan said, a good shop will generally plug the holes as good practice however it doesn't hurt to remind them. Secondly, install the plates for the bed extender after, so they go over the Line-X. It's easier that way.

Most definitely wait till after the liner is sprayed in to install the cover.
Any company spraying would have to remove anything attached to the rails anyway.
Good quality spray depends on the prep that is done...good company will completely scuff the entire bed paint so liner adheres. It will be blown out and then entire bed wiped down with a solvent, and then sprayed.
Truck should be completly taped/papered or tarped off so just the bed interior is available to spray.
As posted, make sure any threaded holes are plugged...cleaning out the threads of liner is a bit-h.

Exactly, I had the extender before I decided to go with Line-X, but I left the hardware for the extender “finger-tight” and my Line-X shop was able to reinstall them after the spray was complete.

Just had a Line-X and all my...ahem...holes were fine afterwards

What everyone here has said. I had my Line-x done first, then I installed my tonneau cover after along with a swing out storage box. The thread holes are easy to clean out after. Have them put plugs in the holes or bolts if you want.

Just make sure the bed extender will work with your tonneau cover. The rails on some tonneau covers will block the extender from folding in and out. I have the Truxedo Lo Pro and I’m pretty sure and extender will NOT work with it.

A follow-up question: it looks like the AMP sport extender listed as specifically for the Ranger is out of stock on Amazon, but they have the universal one ready to ship, and it says it fits any midsize truck. I'm skeptical, but does anyone have any experience with the universal model, or a sense of how it compares to the Ranger-specific model?

I’m trying to find out the same. My Ranger came with a spray in liner and the threaded holes are a mess. I have a tonneau cover and swing out boxes en route and want to make sure I have the right size tap to get them cleaned out
