You'd better consider Lasik or else I'd hate to see your parking without the glasses.??
Can you believe it? My optometrist says that I'll be looking at cataract surgery in a few years...bight side I shouldn't need glasses ever again...

Hate to bust your bubble, but very possible you will need glasses later. I have had both eyes cataract surgery and I have to wear specs. Of course my eyes been through hell so there's that. ?

Hey Sid,
I have cataract surgery done twice. I have the vivity lens , not cheap but worth it to me. They’re blue light and UV blocking. If you can afford it don’t scrimp. I was extremely anxious about the surgery but it’s so routine nowadays. The first eye was the worst worry but the second, bring it on!! Loving my new eyes!!! Best decision ever!!

True but close up for me just reading glasses less than arms length.

Hey Sid, had cataract surgery both eyes in 2013 and still need glasses but technology has probably improved since mine was done and great if you don't need them anymore. But the upside in my case is that I was asked if I preferred to have the procedure done to enhance closeup or far vision with the implanted lenses. I chose the far (I'm near sighted). Without glasses, the clinic said my vision would not be 20-20 but would still meet our state requirements for driving after the procedure. Haven't confirmed this with my optometrist but this is a reminder to ask him at my next exam to see if that occurred. Vision now very good and corrected with glasses. The procedure was quick and painless with no complications. Bright light caused some reflections in the eyes for a while and had to wear shades but that went away and eyes back to normal.

Hi Sid,

My eyes were terrible from birth. Now with the Toric Lens I have 20/20 vision for the first time in my life and do not need glasses anymore for distance...I can finally read road signs in time to make the turn.... The problem is that I have zero close up vision and have to wear reading glasses at the computer and to do close up work....two different magnifications... I royal pain in the A$$. I had to close my clock repair business as I simply cannot see well enough close up to do the quality work I was "famous" for...

Best,
Phil

Phil,
Were they not able to correct your close-up vision with bi or tri-focals?

Hi Paul,

I had severe astigmatism to correct so it was not possible for bi or tri focals. Lenses do not deflect like normal lenses would do as they are rigid.... So for close up work, I have to have 3 power readers and 3 power visor on top of the readers....I can't see well enough close up to tell if I am dealing with a philips or slotted screw for example and have to search for one of my 20 pair of readers spread over the shop and house....sigh!

Best,
Phil

Hi Phil...is this Toric a premium lens? I'd rather have two good eyes instead of one going bad...it's impossible to work at a computer...

Hi Phil,
I got mine done through VA. I was surprised they offered a premium lens called Vivity. It was over 2 years ago when they suspended copay for veterans. So I’m very fortunate it was virtually free. I still would get the premium lens if I had to pay out of pocket.
