Hi all,
I was wondering if someone could help as I have a bit of a weird issue going on when towing my Camper trailer.
When climbing hills trying to maintain speed normally on motorways my Ranger is going into Limp mode and displaying the powertrain fault with the spanner saying see manual. I come to a stand and restart the car and the problems goes away but then comes back at the next hilll unless i let the car slow down and just basically limkp uphills. However this doesnt happen if I use cruise control. I have tried both Drive and sports and also tried 4H and 2H and it doesnt make a difference, the only time it doesnt happen is when im in cruise control.
I have had a remap done and also had EGR tuned out and blanking plate added plus EGR cooler bypass done and also had an aftermarket transmission cooler fitted. I have taken the car back to the tuner who ran a check and told me the tuen is mild and he could not find any problems on the dyno with the car.
Also when I run forscan through I dont have any fault codes recorded for the fault. Can anyone assist or point in the right direction as to what can cause limp mode with powertrain fault light and no fault code recorded but not when uising cruise control?
Also is there a list of all possible causes for a powertrain fault so I can start checking and eliminating.
EDIT: Just an update, I managed to run forscan again straight after I got the fault (prior to restarting the car) and it showed the following fault:

Code: U0401 - Invalid Data Received from ECM/PCM A

Additional Fault Symptom :)86):

I had this exact same thing happen when I had my ranger tuned years ago. I used 5 star tuning. I eventually during a trip reset it back to factory settings and it stopped the issue. It was a shame because the towing performance was fantastic with the tune. 5 star recommended I bring it to them to see what they could figure out but I've never took the time to get it to them. I drove with the tune during daily driving and never had an issue. was only during towing and climbing hills. I tried multiple tunes that I had and all would result in same issue.

To aid in troubleshooting, try removing the tune and revert to factory and see it the problem goes away. If it does, then you will know what is causing the issue.

Thanks RangerBill, I have contacted the tuning company and told them the fault, they believe they have a new modified file that should fix it. Will let you all know if it does fix the issue. Just.need to find time to take it back over to be returned.

If it is only doing it with trailer connected, then something in that connection is taking out the MS Can network data, that is what the code relates to.
This network ties into the HS-Can 1 at the GWM, the HS-Can 1 is the Throttle Body Network (Torque Based Throttle Body Control)
So, this explains the reason for (Uphill Faults) and also why it does not do it with Cruise Control active. You are eliminating the (accelerator pedal) input to the throttle body.

I would say it was the tune but with it only doing it with a trailer connected the issue is somewhere else, unless the Tune is not programmed to (equate) the extra load on the engine with the trailer connected.

G'day walrus1973, did you ever resolve this issue. I have exactly the same setup as yours but on a 2016 PX2 plus I installed a throttle controller.
