You’re thinking WAY too small Brandon. You gotta go big or go home, right. Here’s what I recommend…

@dondonbabyraptor Brandon, if you have the Advance Auto Store chain in your area they have actual Ford colors available in spray cans. They also have the adhesive promoter, both at reasonable prices. If they aren't in your area you can order online, and they will ship if that interests you.

Here's a link for your consideration. BTW, notice the discount code at the top of the screen.

https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web/SearchResults?storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&searchTerm=dupli color spray paint&gclsrc=aw.ds&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4KPomaXI8wIV4kCRBR3k1g8TEAAYASAAEgK6e_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Wow thank you for all this info... I will look into the process of adhesive promoter and figure out which color would be nice to use. I appreciate this so much, I think you gave me some project to work on today. Wanted to take a break and this is perfect. discounts are always nice too :) Thank you again Jim!!

@wanted33 With your idea of adhesive promoter, I actually looked up the temperatures and generally it's around 200F. However, knowing how hot our engine area can be, I think I am going to try "rapidfix" glue to brush over the porous holes, let it cure then go to town with some paint. Rapidfix glue can go up to 500F, JB weld epoxy would be my first choice to seal the holes but I do not want to wait 24 hours for it to cure but it withstands up to 800F.

and you wonder why threads need to be started to keep all the info in one place.
you better part out the hose question and start another thread lest you continue to be part of the problem youre trying to solve
I just learned to start bookmarking threads today. That's going to really help in the future.

Alright. JB weld was what I could find at the store, maybe I shouldn't have bought the quick formula. It hardened before I could smooth it out properly on the engine cover. Thus, I missed 5% of it and the paint wouldn't stick. It stuck wonderfully for the rest though. I think I need to mess with some glues and figure which will spread nice and smooth. I think JB weld could be done if I use a vinyl wrap squeegee to spread it. I originally used a brush but smart me forgot it would harden. Bought another engine cover from levittown ford, I want to do it again but I have to make sure I am fully prepped and ready to do so.

I rushed it today and I paid for my mistakes. However I did find a few things to pull off and colored in "metal blue". Will take pictures after they finish drying. Y'all are going to laugh at the abomination I created on the engine cover. I tried to epoxy it again on the spots that I missed and tried to respray, big mistake. The epoxy is black so it darkens the sections I missed and is stupid noticable. What I will be doing is running this current engine cover in my truck and see if it cracks, etc and see if I need to re-adjust process and find different route.

In the end, it is just great to test and try things out, learning a lot with this truck! :inlove:

I would use wood glue as it's more spreadable but not sure how that will hold up in the high temps. going to try a different longer cure time JB weld and going to try rapidfix glue to see which one is more spreadable and hopefully does not dry as fast.

Here’s the good stuff. Painted the fuse box, whatever little cap sticking up is and engine cover screws. Now this is what came out perfect… I’m an idiot and I am too lazy to check the manual. Enlighten me on what cap I colored :)

Here’s the picture of the failure. As you can see I got a tad wild on the paint since it was alresdy messed up. Left it wet for the photo so y’all can get a real good laugh in ? let’s see if any of this cracks. Probably will but nice to test it before I finalize the process on the other engine cover. It actually didn’t look too bad before I launched the rest of the can on it for “giving up” sake.

yyyyuuuuup you fucked it up ?

alot of effort and money spent to jazz up something hidden in the closet.
I had fun, no biggy to me. Already ordered another engine cover :) the other pieces look amazing.

When I was doing light coats, it actually looked amazing. Until I realized I missed some spots with epoxy and it was not soaking up the paint. That's where it went downhill and I said LETS REALLY MESS IT UP NOW hahaha  :giggle:

Has anyone used this glue before? I wonder if it hardens very quickly or can be spread like butter.

Reminds me, I think I want the 5 inch Ford emblem that Rick and Phil do with their engine cover to throw on top after I finish spray painting it all down. Time to measure out the size to make sure and find a nice emblem on ebay hehe.
