Ordering a 2019 Ranger has been one foul up after another. I'm dealing with Kendall Ford in Anchorage Alaska.

I gave them the configuration printout from the build and price tool back in October. They screwed around for four weeks before the order actually went in. In the process I've gone through three different salesmen. Two quit. The third I'm hoping will stay until I get my truck.

I ordered mine with a retractable tonneau cover. They said that the tonneau wouldn't be available until February, but that they would build my truck in early January and have the dealer install the tonneau later.

Then I was told my truck was scheduled to be built the first week in January. Not bad I thought.

Then the dealer tells me that the factory has delayed my Ranger build until March because the tonneau isn't available. I was never given the option to delete the tonneau and have the truck built on time.

Then the dealer says they ordered another Ranger like mine but minus the tonneau and it would be built in February. I could have my choice of that one or wait for the one I ordered much later. I guess they think I should be happy about this. I haven't seen their order configuration to see it its like mine.

I can't believe what a fouled up process Ford has set up for ordering this vehicle. I'm 72 and have been buying Ford vehicles exclusively since 1983. Had many others going back to 1962. I love my Fords. But this process isn't worthy of the company I'm familiar with. I'm hoping that when I'm finally able to take delivery of my Ranger it will be the last vehicle I have to buy. I will certainly NEVER order another vehicle from the factory. I hope the guys building the truck are more competent than those handling the customer orders.

Mine is a Lariat SuperCrew in Sabre. With all my options it tops out pretty close to $48K including delivery.

Could be my problems are more dealer related then factory. But I feel I should have been given the option to delete the tonneau and have my truck built on schedule/on time. Not have some yay-who in Detroit make the decision for me.

Unfortunately your experience has been quite common, and I think the problem stems mostly from poor communication from Ford corporate to the dealerships.

It sounds like problems at the local dealership were compounded with a lack of communication from Ford corporate, but if you’re getting a truck built in February that’s sooner than most people on the forum.

Wow, sorry for your experience. The problem is your dealer. I am the same age as you and my order is also a Lariat Supercrew in Saber. I had no problems with my dealer or factory. My dealer was not familiar with the new ordering system, but we worked it together and everything went smoothly, including two changes which the dealer easily made - deleting my hard folding tonneau (for same reason you deleted your tonneau) and changing the color. My dealer showed me the printout that said it would be delayed because of the tonneau and we deleted it that same day. So that was definitely your dealer's fault. I also ordered mine in October. My truck is in shipment and should be here within a week (and the tonneau is on it's way separately to the dealer ordered thru their parts department). And, hopefully you'll be around long enough to have to buy several more new vehicles - just not from that dealer.

Unfortunately this dealer is the only Ford source in Alaska. They have a dealership here in Anchorage, one in Wasilla, one in Soldotna, and one in Fairbanks.

Not sure what to reply to that situation, although one of the other locations may have better management (and as often as sales managers turn over, your local dealer may have a different manager soon). Even with a turnover in salesmen, the manager should have made sure you were taken care of. No excuse for what they did.

In one of the videos, there was a dealer who would ship a truck for FREE anywhere (maybe not Alaska, though). Might be something to think about in the future.

Faiirbanks and Soldotna are a bit of a trek for you but the Wasiilla dealer isn't too far. But yeah, ask for the manager next time and ask if you can see the DORA (it's a dealer order report that shows what you ordered and comes from Ford after the order has been accepted. Good luck.
