Now why couldn't Ford do this for the 5G?

I'm sure it could be adapted to fit but you'd need a trim kit for the headliner to finish it off. What they should've done was make this an option from the factory but of course that's asking too much.

I do like how the switches are on my Tremor. They're in a good spot so you really don't have to take your eyes off the road/off road (much) to get to them. With those if you're trying to do this "on the fly" you have to look up which could/will be dangerous.

I think once you get used to where they’re at, you don’t have to look. The aux switches in my work truck are in the same spot, I don’t have to look to know which one I’m turning on.

I'm sure like most things you'd get use to where they are. I think in normal instances overhead would be fine but if you're off road and it's bumpy and doing it on the fly you're going to have a hard time finding the one you want. I do like both designs (the overhead gives the dash a cleaner look) but prefer the ones on the dash like on my Tremor ease of use especially with aging eyes.

True. The switches I installed in the ranger are lower on the fuse box panel. That’s the only place I could easily install them without ripping out dash panels and opening up the headliner. Those ones I have to look for… I wish I put them somewhere else but I don’t plan on drilling any more holes in the dash than what I’ve already done lol

That is what the engineers forgot about when they went to touch screens.

Humans have muscle memory. Muscle memory works great with knobs or buttons, but terrible at touch screens.

But with touch screen prices dropping through the floor, they became cheaper than buttons and knob switches. Never mind the inconvenience and danger from software glitches, weak / dead batteries or motor failures.

Think electric parking brakes. It locks but won't unlock. Same with touch screen failures, no control over many features.

Same with electric knobs for transmission controls... much too easy to over shoot the correct turn of the knob...or even bump it while driving.

Human interfaces matter much more than marketing sizzle.

My statement was in regards to non tremor models lol.

Right from the website.

"This is the perfect upgrade when not factory equipped and when adding lighting or any other accessories requiring aux switch control."

You can buy the parts, it's just pricey, you're better off with Aux Beam

Really interesting that they show a 5G Ranger on the first page of the installation guide. Looks like it replaces the sun glass door. Who's going to be the first to put it in a 5G?

General Question regarding ancillary switches: How many do most folks need/want/use???

I know some need enough to what would otherwise make the dash confused for a 747 cockpit. But for the typical case, what's the number??

I used the LightForce fascia switches (3 in total) with minimal fuss.

That RANGER AUX SWITCH KIT is nice, but $500... really?? (I realize it's a whole kit and kinda plug and play to get the kit in (not counting the hassle of routing the wires in and around the dash board)).

And for me :giggle: the loss of the sunglass holder is unacceptable. One of the best, yet trivial, features compared to my previous Rangers.

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
The switches on my Tremor are connected to just as many things as they were the day it rolled off the line.

Feeling a bit lame right now.

Need, probably 4 for me, which is why I got the Auxbeam slim 4 gang. If I need more I could always upgrade to 6. I don't see a situation where I would need more than 6 though.

I as well use my sunglasses holder. :like:
