My neighbor directly across the street was teaching his teen daughter how to drive in their decrepit Corolla last Saturday @ 1603 hours.

She lost control of the vehicle and plowed into my carport, narrowly missing my parked 2020 Lariat (shown with the car cover), fortunately no one was injured.

He (the father) claimed that his daughter told him she was "ready to go on the road", I'd say she was a wee bit optimistic...lol

Glad that no one was hurt in the process.

When some friends of mine were learning to drive, Dad got an old VW Rabbit for them to practice on, so that they wouldn't mark up his car. Probably a good thing to, because that Rabbit drove through the neighbour's garage; took out the central post between the carport doors, pushing a potted tree ahead of it. Apparently, that wasn't the first scrape that car got in, as one day they returned to it in the store parking lot, and someone had left a poem about their driving and subsequent state of the car on the windshield, which ended with "Kill it before it multiplies!"

Happily, both are much improved drivers now.

I taught my youngest son how to drive in my 2021 Lariat. He did really well after practicing in parking lots and private roads around my workplace. On our first real street drive, a lady ran a stop sign and nearly hit us. I screamed stop so loud that people on the sidewalk started laughing. Still no scratches on my pavement princess.

Good thing nobody was hurt or that the carport didn't collapse.

Mahalo to those who responded with kind thoughts...

I was attempting to re-aim the left security cam shown in the picture a minute before this happened and stepped away to get a tool.

Had I not done so I would had been severely injured, or worse...

I'm not a deeply religious person, but someone or something was looking out for me.

This is why you don’t wait till they’re 15 to teach them. I started learning when I was 8 and by 9, I was driving a stick shift Willy’s hunting Jeep. By the time I was 16 it wasn’t a big deal. My kids are on the same schedule.

Hope your power survived!
No, as a matter of fact I've been on generator power for 9 days now, using 2 Honda 2.2 & a Honda 3 kW units, I am convinced that Honda manufactures absolutely the finest small generators.

However, I live in a relatively densely populated area of Honolulu, so I have to be mindful of my neighbors concerning the exhaust fume and noise output. They claim that the neither of these bother them, however I will not take advantage of them, so in the evening I run just 1 of the 2.2 kW units.

Shown here is a temporary power pole my electrician buddy and his gang erected Saturday, I hope for the power company to tie into it tomorrow.

Crossing my fingers...

My Father taught me how to drive on an archaic '48 Ford panel delivery when I was 10.

I know for a fact that he wasn't about to let me make hamburger of the Borg Warner T-10 4 speed coupled to a 289 4V in his then new '65 Mustang.

I imagine I contributed greatly to his grey hair production...lol

Ouch.

Seems like you're surviving well though.

Helps that the neighbors are cooperating.

I am very fortunate enough to have excellent neighbors, many have opened their homes to us for to take hot showers, use their cooking facilities, do laundry and to offer their own portable generators.

Their generosity is beyond belief...
