Yota has to compete much more so in the global make than Ford, Hyundai/KIA have stated a goal to overtake Toyota in sales, now enter the Chinese . I can't determine whether Farley's remarks are made as a veiled plea for continuation of tariffs or he just has had his head buried in the sand , (or darker places) but I would expect more intelligent remarks from the CEO. I will say Toyota appears to have made better choices as it pertains to taking the EV plunge. But I well remember Ford and GMs introducing the Vega and Pinto and jointly proclaiming the cars would "drive the Japanese imports from America's shores" yeah not exactly a prediction that came to pass.

Ford CEO Said Chinese Automakers Represent An "Existential Threat"

American automakers have largely ignored Chinese vehicles, as they’ve traditionally been viewed as knockoffs of existing models, but that attitude is shifting – hard. Following a recent trip to China, which involved driving locally-produced vehicles, Ford CEO Jim Farley shared his thoughts, expressing concern that Chinese automakers have progressed into an “existential threat.”
Farley and Ford CFO John Lawler spoke after the drive, with Lawler noting that “these guys are ahead of us.” The CEO also said that the rise is similar to the trajectories taken by Toyota and Honda in the 1980s and 1990s and compared Chinese companies’ progress to that of Hyundai and Kia.

Good ! I like rough, unpredictable crappy transmissions, glad to see the market expanding... I think Nissan ? my need to follow suit if they want to stay in the game, hardly any transmission talk on their forums...
I ran my 2003 Maxima until last year and never drained the transmission fluid once. I did the other maintenance religiously. Oil and filter at 5K intervals. Never had a single issue with it, Not one. Gifted it to my nephew and he's loving it. It is his daily driver. I did advise him to change the transmission fluid, but who knows if he did. He was quite impressed with the 3.5 V6 power.

I had that car for just over 20 years, replaced it with a 2023 Mazda CX-5 Turbo.
