RETIRED!!!!
I researched this quite a bit a short while back as far as road noise and I believe the cooper's were at the top (top good , not top bad) , and my next tire , but sold truck and got the Ranger and Hankooked... these Are pretty road quite also , but nobody seems to like them ?
I don't have any issues with my Hankooks. I like the ride, just wish they were a bit taller, but that's not the fault of the tire. Have been looking at 255/70r18. I like the looks of their new AT2 Xtreme.

As long as you dont go with a really big size(more than 32 inch tires) weight wont be an issue with the XT's. They are lighter than other tires in the same load range. Thay will help with the overall fuel usage. If you are going to habe to deal with dirt road where Mud and Snow can be a problem then I still suggest the XT's. You could go with the AT2 but its a light duty All Terrain. The LE3 is a great street tire but not great for OffRoad conditions. If you have to deal with Mud and Snow i would not suggest the LE3.
I have dedicated snow tires that I will take off after mud season. Any mud after that is just surface mud.

Sid, I've been eyeing these Coopers as replacements when the Hankooks go. Are they pretty quiet on the highway? Any noticeable drop in fuel economy? Are they good in the rain?
Always wanted the Wildpeaks, but the secret's out they're good tires and their not inexpensive anymore.
H Mike...yes yes yes...I can't explain fuel economy due to many many many other factors...you know what I mean? ?

I ran 265/70R-17 GENERAL GRABBER A/TX SL tires for the last 35k miles and they were good. handled well on road and outstanding off-road. That said, I think I'll go with Firestone Destination ATs when the time comes for new shoes. I've had them on past vehicles, and I liked them a lot. Lots of good options out there.

Matter of fact, if the reviews on these tires convince me to get them, I will. They sure look nice and probably will serve me well in the long run.
Screw the gas mileage

now if someone wants a decent tire cheap, finalist toreno a/t. comes in a few popular lt sizes and of course not made in usa. its made in Thailand which is better than china in my mind... i bought one set for the old 4g that barely sees any dirt or long trips and they ride nice and have great wet road traction. they cheap e cheap like dont know if i wanted to trust em lol. but not bad.

I got Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT 275/70/17. I was looking for a good all around tire. Snow, off road, rain, street, towing. I am happy with the purchase. Very good tires!

My LT Grabbers are too loud and rough riding on-road.

My first truck sat on 35” Mud Kings and I drove HUMVEEs for several years after that, so my perception of ride quality is probably way off. Haha.
8 years Marine Corps. I get it.

My LT Grabbers are too loud and rough riding on-road.
My Tremor came with General Grabber ATx tires in LT265/70-17. When I test drove the Ranger I was expecting the tires to be very noisey based on the Grabber AT tires on my son's Wrangler but the ATx tires are suprisingly quiet, you have to have the windows open to here them at all. The Perelli P-Zero Summer tires that came on my Mustang made more noise than the ATx tires.

My past experience with all terrain tires in the winter has never been good but I figured that I would give the ATx tires a try because of the mountain snow flake rating before running out and buying winter tires. They worked great this past winter in the snow and slop.

I can't comment on the ride because I haven't driven a Ranger with the Tremor suspension and other tires but I find with the tires aired down to 35 psi the ride is more than acceptable.

With that glowing review I do not think I will by these tires again. My off-roading is limited to the beach and a road tire has proven more than adequate over the past 30 years. So when it's time for new tires I will likely go with an a tire that is more road focused in a P-metric rating over the LT to save some weight and get better mileage. The tires I would look at are the General Grabber APT, BFGoodrich Trail Terrain or Cooper AT3 4S.
