I recently bought a 2019 Ranger XL. Been checking out the forum for a while now so I finally decided to go ahead and join. I am really enjoying seeing some of the mods you all have made to your trucks. I think this forum is going to be dangerous to my bank account.

No, thank you. You helped pay for me to travel the world and drink beer.?
Copy that. I was in the active Army for three years and am still serving full time in the Air National Guard, just went over 37 years and counting.

Hi Brian,

I am the son of a WWII vet father that was part of the Army and then the Army Air Corps and then the United States Air Force. I lived the military lifestyle as a dependent. I have tremendous respect for those who served! Always will. I chose a non Military path as my dream was to be an Automotive engineer. I display my Flag proudly in an area of Green Valley where the flag is in frowned upon. Screw them! On this day, I give thanks and prayers to First Responders and our Military.

There is a back story on these Forums but I cannot find it so I will briefly recap it here.

I was to fly to Germany for the Indy Car race on 9/11/2001. This was when the grave terrorist attack happened, and all flights were grounded. Shocked beyond belief. Little did I know the newly created FX4 Ranger would play a critical roll in the aftermath. I returned to work as my flights to Germany were cancelled. Sitting in my office, my secretary told me that someone from World Headquarters was on the line. Ford was going to pull out the stops to help in the aftermath. I had 20 Ranger FX4 prototypes that were from the pilot program for the FX4.....We sent these 20 Rangers to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. All the Port Authority vehicles were destroyed in the World Trade Center Collapse. These Rangers served for some two months on duty with the Port Authority, and up on return, one was proudly displayed at Ford World Headquarters for about a month. So the FX4 has a heritage associated with 9/11.

Hello all, I was born and raised in New Orleans, moved to Lafayette LA about 15 yrs ago. Lifelong Toyota fan, actually have owned 4 Toyota trucks. We still have my wife’s 2017 Toyota Camry which is great. Well i had bought a 2017 Toyota Tacoma and I just could not get over how slow it was. Always getting past up by soccer moms. And the worst part is I was only getting 17 mpg average. I could get past the truck being slow part probably, but the whole reason why they put this new drivetrain in was supposedly to get good fuel mileage. Then I had this bed squeaking issue. Brought it back twice so they could install some rubber pieces in the leaf springs I think that was supposed to stop the squeak. After it didn’t work the second time, the tech told me “it’s a Tacoma they almost all do that it’s a well known issue”. Well when the ranger came out I looked long and hard at it and I test drove one. At the time with the incentives, I got a brand new ranger xlt 2 wd sport for just over $24,000 at a local dealership. I couldn’t pass it up as I was going to be actually paying less per month for the same timeframe not to mention a brand new truck. It’s been about a year now and I still love my ranger. The only thing I have done so far is install the livernois tune. I have a 2.5 inch lift kit that I just ordered because I think the rake is a little too much on these trucks. This truck is without a doubt the fastest vehicle I have ever owned, just a joy to drive. Mpgs are great also compared to every other truck I have owned. I also love how well I can see the road from behind the wheel, it is almost just as good as our Camry. It’s extremely easy to drive around and park in crowded places. I foresee myself driving this truck for a very long time God willing I have no major mechanical issues in the future. Good luck guys and Godbless.

Soooo I should have posted something here miles ago but I’ve been here and there on the forum over the last few months since I bought my Ranger XL in May! I’m an amateur photographer so I was itching to get some pics in but with stock steel rims and a rake I needed to add some personality! I have just about 5000 miles now after buying it at 52 (test drives) and I’ve been riding on a 93 Octane Performance Livernois Tune for about 700 of them. I’m still rocking 16” rims which I haven’t really seen anyone stick with after switching from stock and I really did it because I couldn’t bring myself to just not use the 30k warranties tires from factory so I just switched them over onto some -20 offset American Racing wheels which again I really haven’t seen anyone do on a 2020 ranger. I plan on goin all in and getting KO2’s when the time comes and just have to see if I can convince myself there’s a financial responsible way to buy bigger rims and tires at the same time orrrr keep the 16”s I paid 500 for and go for 285/75/16 which I’d for sure have to do some crash bar cutting which I’m hoping to get advice on down the line. Anyway, been loving the community and everyone’s Trucks! I spend hours browsing the gallery and looking at people’s projects! Here’s mine!

Hey everyone!

Long time lurker finally turned owner!

Previously a 4runner owner, was looking at Tacoma’s, but wanted something different.

That’s incredible Phil, thanks to your dad and all the others who did so much to retain our way of life.
That’s a cool story about Ford stepping up to help after 9/11, just like they did in WWII.
Our national guard unit was flying our AM sorties when the towers were struck and returned from their training missions early so we could load live munitions and put them back in the air ASAP in case there were other hijacked airlines. It was very eerie to only see our fighters taking off for a number of days until air travel resumed.

Hey All -- New to truck life, so I've been reading a bit and thought I'd hop in.

I was driving to the airport last week for a nice 10 day trip of visiting family/friends back home in the Midwest, and a dude rear ended my Nissan Altima. He was going ~75 in a Silverado and I was going ~45, so it was totaled. I walked away fine, and even made my flight. I had actually been looking at mid-sized trucks for a while, so had a good idea of what I wanted. While I was in Indiana, I saw a great deal on a lightly used 2019 Ford Ranger XLT FX4 in Indy, went up and test drove the thing and it was done. They had a TRD off-road Tacoma as well, but I didn't even bother.

Now I'm looking to get some tips, info, etc. on tires, toppers, trail roads, and the like. For now, I'm looking to just get the biggest tires I can with no other mods and to add a topper with a rack. That'll get me most everywhere I wanna go, keep my sh*t dry, and I can throw skis or kayaks up top.

Below is a pic of my Ranger outside my place in Broomfield, CO (suburb between Denver and Boulder).

Welcome Tyler! If you have 17" tires you can go with 265/70/17 without having to cut or replace the crash bars or a lift/level kit. That's what I have on mine but I added a RC 2.5" level kit on the stock wheels and have had no issues with rubbing.
