Hey All -- New to truck life, so I've been reading a bit and thought I'd hop in.

I was driving to the airport last week for a nice 10 day trip of visiting family/friends back home in the Midwest, and a dude rear ended my Nissan Altima. He was going ~75 in a Silverado and I was going ~45, so it was totaled. I walked away fine, and even made my flight. I had actually been looking at mid-sized trucks for a while, so had a good idea of what I wanted. While I was in Indiana, I saw a great deal on a lightly used 2019 Ford Ranger XLT FX4 in Indy, went up and test drove the thing and it was done. They had a TRD off-road Tacoma as well, but I didn't even bother.

Now I'm looking to get some tips, info, etc. on tires, toppers, trail roads, and the like. For now, I'm looking to just get the biggest tires I can with no other mods and to add a topper with a rack. That'll get me most everywhere I wanna go, keep my sh*t dry, and I can throw skis or kayaks up top.

Below is a pic of my Ranger outside my place in Broomfield, CO (suburb between Denver and Boulder).

Welcome and glad you were okay after the accident. Looks like a bad thing turned into something good as you now have an awesome truck. :)

Honestly it has worked out well. We'll see how well once I get that insurance check

Welcome Tyler! If you have 17" tires you can go with 265/70/17 without having to cut or replace the crash bars or a lift/level kit. That's what I have on mine but I added a RC 2.5" level kit on the stock wheels and have had no issues with rubbing.

Yeah I have the 17" rims seen in that picture w/ the stock 265/65/17 Hankooks. Is the difference in rims aesthetics only?

First thing I'll be adding is the 265/70/17's. Got a couple quotes out on the Leer 100R topper with the rack on top. Those are my first two purchases, then we'll see where things stand in a year or so.

Yes the difference is aesthetics only, I have the sport package. Mine came with the same tires and I changed them out right away and sold them on Craigslist for $325.00. You can probably get more there but people out here are cheap and want everything for nothing.

I assumed so regarding the rims, but just wanted to confirm.

Good to hear you got something for the stock ones.

Not sure where you're getting your tires from but Discount Tire is a sponsor here. You can message them here for a quote.

Welcome Tyler. AZ is spot on. My BFG KO 265/70/17's were this close but I ran them almost a year with no rubbing. Eventually added the FPP/Fox level kit.

I like it very much. I am not a serious off roader. So most time on the pavement. It firmed up the ride a little, but not harsh at all. Looks much better IMHO. ?

Thank you for the feedback. Your truck looks great! Did you install yourself?

Thanks, I purchased the kit from Levittown ford, had local ford dealer install, in order to protect warranty. 500 to install.

Well my insurance check came in significantly fatter than expected (double what I was assuming based off KBB research), so it's time for the Leer 100R + rack and 265/70/17 BFG KO2's. Will post some pictures here when we're set.

A lot of the folks I gathered info from aren't active in this thread, but this forum is a wealth of knowledge and I just wanted to say thanks. And I'll definitely be staying active here, maybe even down for some of the Colorado meetups down the road.

Wow, that seems like a reasonable price for the install. Did they do an alignment as well?
