I have a 2021 ford ranger lariet. I left the auto updates on for my radio and they just made a change. When i have the usb flash drive plugged in and listen to the music it will not let me change artists if i am moving in the vehicle only when i am stopped can i change music. Says for your safety. Has this happened to anyone else and can you change it back?

I will have to give this a try. I know when I'm on spotify (android auto) and scrolling with the up/down arrows it will pause every so often "for my safety" then allow me to scroll again. Frustrating.

Sync3. I will have to check my radio and see which version. It says 3.4 version.

I should have elaborated... 3.4.22251 seems to be problematic... a variety of issues. 3.4.23088 seems to be the solution... but Ford has not released it yet. It is available from Cyanlabs... (how and why is unknown to me). See this thread: Sync3 Issues - post ~148
I installed it from Cyanlabs with no issues.

All my fords are that way; 21 Bronco sport, 21 F450, 23 Ranger. Just have to remember to select Artist BEFORE I go...(I never remember:explode:)

For music playing directly onto Sync3 from a USB flash drive, I've found that navigating that music while driving requires you to use voice commands rather than the screen. it's functioned that way on my truck for quite a long time. I tend to just leave my usb music on shuffle to avoid it. Android Auto apps give me more control via the head unit. The only functions locked out while driving that require voice would be anything that needs text entry (like searches). But you can scroll through a list at least. and most importantly, so can a passenger.

I use CarPlay and this "feature" appears in different versions.

CarPlay would let me scroll playlists and then suddenly after an update it wouldn't. Locked for my Safety.

It stayed that way for a couple of updates and then the scrolling capability returned with the caveat of only being able to access the last few playlists, which was fine by me.

Going out right now to disable auto update in case the lock has returned.

I have noticed that lately my Sync3 won't retain my display setting.

This seems to be an issue with the current version but it only recently started happening to me.

I set it for always in Dark mode and about every other time I start the truck it is back in Auto mode.

If it updates and locks my CarPlay again I'm likely going to consider that as a sign to trade it for something for my wife as I drive the Jeep most of the time now.

Edit: Currently on 22251 and Auto Updates were already disabled.

This time when I started the truck it kept my display setting preference.

I'm going to guess that next time it won't.

Edit #2: After reading the thread on Cyanlabs I'm going to try the double reset and see if that resolves my display going back to default.

while it is an annoying thing, I am glad that automakers limit the amount of fidgeting with the radio while moving.

I wish phones would automatically lock out when they sense movement in a vehicle.

I get it. but I'd rather have more consistency over what's accessible and what isn't, and a clearer pathway to deal with the limitations placed on you while you're driving

Yep safety pause. I made a post complaining about it. I did not want to update Android Auto but then I got messages saying it would stop working if I didn't. Also I used to be able to select destinations I saved in Waze, now the menu is gone when moving. If there is a repository somewhere of old Android Auto versions I'd love to know about it. I did uninstall and reinstall the first time it happened and it went away somehow, might try again.

Google Maps you can input from the phone while driving, as long as the map isn't displayed. . .
