It wasn't that great of a deal... Two bucks a piece for #2 SPF 2x4s. I paid almost $7 a piece when I built a house last spring.

$2 is a steal now a days.

I built a deck in the middle of the wood pricing fiasco. $900 for what should have cost $300.

Just keep in mind the price is after rebate and the rebate is in Menards credit. It's OK if you shop there often and have a project to do. Not so much if they are out of the way.
I found that out the hard way redoing my kitchen and was stuck trying to spend the rebate there.

I found out about the sale when I went there to get a stack of lumber for my ongoing basement reno, and found them sold out. Guy who put together my order for the other lumber I needed said they had 1400 left when he started his shift.

Around here at Home Depot, 2 x 4 x 8ft Douglas Fir is $2.98, #2 Southern Yellow Pine is $2.85. But i remember it was up to $9 during the "shortage".
What's funny is that the description says:

The mills around here are absolutely LOADED with lumber and their log yards are full too. All the fires in the past few years have triggered a ton of salvage logging. With the downturn in housing due to mortgage rates, I'd expect prices to go lower. It just seems like there is WAY too much supply.
